2025-03-09: Media server guide FINALLY DONE!!!
Have a read here if you want to know how to setup your own NAS/media/music server using cheap hardware (Orange Pi 5 Plus, can be done on cheaper such as the Orange Pi 3B).
Awesome
Looks like i did indeed hit the jackpot on my blind purchase lol (got unit nr 2). Seems like the value king all due to the high pass filter it has at such low price.
It’s a killer feature set for the money no doubt!
A true labor of love, Rikudou, thx for the heads-up.
(Been thinking about setting up my own media server for quite a while but it just never made it onto my list of top prios … that may change at some point further down the road even though I have all of my favorite media stored on my smartphone (2.5TB) these days and two backups for everything.)
Thanks!
Honestly a Media server really is damn useful. I only started with the Synology DS423+ as “just” a NAS but ended up going quite a bit deeper than that with all my self hosted docker containers lol.
Sounds tempting to me, time will tell if I’ll enter yet another rabbit hole.
Dang, my music collection has grown over more than 45 years and I keep chasing albums (mainly 60s/70 jazz/fusion/latin) like there’s no tomorrow, lol.
I still have my first CD and vinyl rips from when I went all digital in the late 90s, shortly before I sold off the big stuff and went 100% mobile/ITB, except for my trusty DIY studio monitors and a Yamaha Motif ES8 (just moved that thing to another storage facility yesterday, 45kg incl. the flight case, jeez…).
End of ramble
With such an old (and assume big) collection, you would really benefit from putting everything on a centralized NAS, much easier to organize and handle. Makes it MUCH easier to access it on multiple devices.
Yeah, probably the main reason to build one.
I’m still constantly adding and changing all kinds of data, my music collection is just a small part of it all, lol. Even though I’m used to deal with that madness something more centralized, including a smart backup solution, could save a LOT of time, but it’d need to be mobile (16TB + the same amount for one separate backup).
By this you mean that you want to be able to access it on your phone AND outside your home/LAN? Thats easily done with a VPN like Wireguard (I do exactly that in my guide) or Tailscale.
As for a smart backup, tbh I dont have this yet but you could setup a method where the moment you connect an external hdd via usb, it automatically copies all/selected folders over to it.

Mission successful, actually quite a bit more comfortable than stock, including less pressure.
Although im not sure if this is deep enough (I used a size larger than i likely should for the foam blocker to not get as deep insertion for safety) as I mayyyy have lost a little bit of bass.
Will likely work a lot better with DD or hybrids than all BA like this DT200 and im guessing that a bullet shape would work better.
@Oumuamua btw this may be something you could try for your Volume S.
I tried using the 2-part custom ear plugs material about a decade ago. It works, doesn’t seal well for me, and get’s gross pretty quick
hmm, did you go as shallow as I did? I believe you want it to go in pretty deep for more seal
Like this.
And i think having an open mouth also seals it more (I did mine with closed).
If I recall it was difficult to get it to press in very deep while it was still able to be formed. I used them as just ear plugs but it would be the same with the IEM pushed into it like you’ve done. Hopefully the material has improved since then.
aa, did you perhaps not use a syringe like this?
I did not use it for my first mold and it ended up really bad (no seal).
No syringe. Just pushed the mixture in as far as I could. That would definitely help get it in the canal. The stuff I had was two parts that were mixed together and way too thick for a syringe.

Thats likely the problem then.
Still figuring out some options not at last since I’m constantly reorganizing my data, changing/renaming/updating folder structures etc…
aaa yeah thats kinda where im at as well with my files. However thats not an issue actually.
You can use
via a docker container.
since it has deduplication, which recognizes the file based on the content instead of file name or location. (also has file versioning.)
And automation kinda works.
My plan is that when I replace one of my 16TB drives for 18 or 20TB for more storage (without using the last storage bay in my synology) I will get a single bay DAS (hdd case) for it or maybe a 2 bay one to use as cold storage backup.
