Rupert Neve RNHP Precision Headphone Amplifier

I’ve generally found that people with better hearing (usually younger) prefer slow roll-off as opposed to sharp roll-off. Sharp roll-off is typically what I find that “audiophiles” prefer, and they’re usually older folks…

I’m 39 and can still hear up to 18.5 KHz. Not sure how considering I’ve played drums for 18 years and bass for 12 years in 3 different bands…went to a ton of concerts my entire life… and served in loud combat experiences in the Marine Corps. I should be freaking deaf.

That’s a blessing, and a miracle considering all of those experiences!

Thank you for your service.

I have some crazy bad luck, but definitely good luck with my hearing. :grinning:

I also somehow kept my hearing with 18.5 tested (43years young)
Was years(over a decade)in front of the stage on many concerts as security, worked at the door and behind the counter in some clubs
Build crazy car audio setups with monster(bad) Sound

All without hearing protection

My parents both hear quite bad(since they were around 55-60)and did nothing bad to the ears- so maybe have
15 years left if I come after them

Now I listen to not higher as 80-85 db and hope it helps

Of course there was no listing to be found for the two weeks I was looking for a used one. The second I buy one for $420 on ebay (with upgraded knob and caps), I see that $350 one from Head-Fi the very next day. In the end I may have taken the upgraded one anyway, but it’s just funny how there were none listed when I wanted one.

I’m very happy with my RNHP. I’m using the Topping DX7 Pro right now as a DAC only.

I could still probably get $400 for the DX7 Pro used if I sold it. Is there any DAC that pairs well with RNHP (must be USB) over the DX7 Pro that would be worth going through the trouble?

The bifrost 2 is pretty sweet actually, if you want a bit more fun and impressive spatial recreation

Researching now. Thanks! :grinning:

I think the RNHP pairs well with ANY dac.

I think it’s more a matter of what you’re looking for sonically.

Was looking at this the other day. Watched currawongs review. Wonder how much of an upgrade over the smsl su-8…

I would say pretty noticeable. Dac upgrades are never that large until you get to the real big buck range, but I would say its worth for sure

Well, I mean, it can also expose the flaws of poor dacs too lol, so you might want to set some standard of quality

Once I get settled with the rnhp and crack over my thx and darkvoice it’ll probably be my next upgrade.

Mon, I predict my RNHP/Bifrost stack will become a community favorite!
(No, I don’t have the Bifrost yet).

I wonder if I can popularize the May KTE and rnhp stack, it’s pretty sweet

Possibly, but it’s a little more pricey.
