Schiit Mjolnir 3 Desktop Headphone Amplifier

I see we think alike  Did order some gladiator cables with pure copper litz to compare them to my home made cables with my VC in preparation for the incoming mjolnir

My GraveDigger cable is here, and it is an improvement (the Audiophile Ninja cable cuts the sharpness more though). Now I wait for my amp to arrive to compare further. Hopefully shipping starts next week as stated.

So the estimated ship date is now November 20th. Hopefully the parts arrive in time.

Also, I am still seeing mixed impressions involving pairing Mj3 with the Tungsten (both models). Some say it is a great match, while others are claiming that it lacks the grunt to power the Tungsten correctly. A few people have mentioned that it depends on the settings that you use on the amp.

From what I have been reading in other forums Mjolnir 3 can scale up with DAC pairings. I am not sure to what point, but maybe a DAC upgrade will be in my future? I will still be getting the Tungsten first though. Too bad Schiit doesn’t have a DAC in-between the Bifrost and the Yggdrasil+ OG anymore. Maybe Schiit Audio will release an updated module for my Bifrost 2/64 before I save up for the Yggdrasil+ OG

Edit: Or a limited edition Gungnir multibit.

The HE6SE worked just fine.
But the Tungston is even a bit more demanding.

Did it sound bad on the Mjolnir 3? or just not a lot of headroom?

Edit: Also, I am going for the double sided version if that makes a difference.

Let’s first try to get a pair of tungsten, fist batch was gone in 10min or so :stuck_out_tongue:

It sounded just fine, no issue with headroom.
I would test before buying maybe at a schiit meet locally if your fortunate enough to ?

Read this on headfi from Ryan:

  1. In regards to sensitivity - yes, the target right now is for single sided to be 76-78db/mW for single sided and 80-82 db/mW for double sided…but I won’t know for sure until the final drivers are tested. This would make them (I believe) the hardest to drive headphones on the market, but someone please correct me if I’m wrong! Thankfully, there are several affordable options that can power them these days. Because the impedance is very high compared to most planars voltage tends to be a bigger concern than current, and some amps scale differently with impedance than others. The general guideline I’ve been providing is that most folks will want an amplifier that can provide 12V RMS or more for the single sided drivers, but your needs will vary significantly based on the volume you listen at and how much headroom the music you listen to requires. I actually have a Magni Piety, and that can drive them, but it has little to no headroom on quiet high dynamic-range tracks when fed by a 2V source. Depending on your listening volume and music it might be enough for you! Of the amps I’ve tried I’ve had plenty of head room with the Schiit Jotunheim 2 and Mjolnir, Topping A70, Violectric V222, and V340 as a few examples. For reference the unit I took to Can Jam NYC was an older revision and that measured 73db/mW for me. The unit Mimic had at Chicago was the final tuning, but a higher than normal impedance (170 ohms), and measured 71db/mW for me. So thankfully the final drivers should be significantly easier to drive than those examples - but still difficult, and it does depend a lot on the amp you are using.

Mj3 can drive Tungsten. Not the best, but fine. From memory Oor + Hypsos would have better punch and meatier low end.
HE6seV2 were easy for Mj3.

Tungsten are super hard to drive.

Actually rayn told me it was 2 minutes and another minute to access the website to close orders so 3 mins total the launch was live lol.

Should be easierish to drive and more comparable to susvara sound than the single sided. I got the SS because I wanted a more fun tuning.

I would love to own both, but since I can only afford 1 I will have to go with the one that works best on my setup. I do also have the option of powering the Tungsten with my Soloist 3XP in power amp mode, or using a set of 30 watt mono blocks (Gjallarhorn). I also have a set of class d power amps I can try.

Edit: If everything sounds good on the Mjolnir 3, then I will most likely sell my Soloist to cover some of the cost of the Mjolnir 3 and Tungsten. We shall see which one sounds best to me once I have everything in hand. :joy:

Well I wanted to get the SS but mod house only accepts credit card so I did buy them from mimic and so I could only get the DS version ^^

10-12 weeks lead time (mimic) :smiling_face_with_tear:

Also, while the mimic edition doesn’t have colour options when ordering, you can still ask them to change the colours if you want (chassis and grills)

I still have to place my order, so it will be a while for me as well. I guess my credit card company is going to love me this year.

I will also be buying this to organize my desk to be able to fit all of those amps, DAC, and Wiim Pro.

I also have two small stands I purchased prior to put on top of it if I need to fit more equipment.

Anyone planning on picking up a Yggdrasil + MIB to pair with their Mjolnir 3? It seems people are liking the new model thus far, and the OG is on its way out. Not planning on upgrading from my Bifrost 2/64 just yet, but it would be interesting to hear other peoples take on the pairing.

Still two weeks at the earliest until i get to play with my Mjolnir 3, and that is if it gets shipped by 11/20 as estimated.
