I do, but I thought I posted my thoughts before. Although I might be thinking of what I posted on Head-fi.

It is a great pairing, but I am going to o be upgrading to a Yggdrasil MIB next year. Over on Head-fi, owners of the Mjolnir 3 said it scales well with better DACs. I will hear it for myself next year.

All my thoughts on the Mjolnir 3 have all been with it being fed by the BF2/64.

Thanks…guess I need to reread the thread. Good to know…the yggy should be great with it!

If you have the opportunity to purchase a Mjolnir 3 you won’t be disappointed with it being fed by a BF 2. ZMF Atrium Open, Arya V3, HD660s, Starry Night v1, Moonlight, and Koss KPH30i all sound good to me when paired with that combo. I listen to a bit of everything, but today was a Blues listening sessions with the Atrium Open hooked up to the MJ3. Let’s just say that I got lost in the music.

Feeding my MJ3 from several dacs…all good.
The amp is good enough to discern differences is attached stuff…

iFi Pro iDSD - Nice due to its variable level output capability, DSD and multiple filters AND Tubes if ya wabt to go there and fully balanced.

Schiit MB 2, the latest. SE outs but a steal at its price level and great pairing.

Soekris 2541. R2R Sign dac…balanced as well. Another great dac. Good pairing.

Schiit Modius E…Fully balanced another performer for a low cost.

MHDT Orchid…a warmer combination, works well with HE1000Se’s

So back to letting my MJ3 passively cool, as I was hearing some odd changes to the sound recently when cooling it with a desk fan. Everything sounds just fine after letting the amp get to its normal steady state temp. I will try not to burn myself on the fins (happened once when I first got it due to my hand slipping).

Well,

I have sold the Orchid MHDT.
Still have the Soekris 2541, the Cyan 2 arrived a few weeks back NOS only, also have the Schiit Modius E.

All others sold etc…

Have a Gungnir 2 coming. Will audition with the other dacs here and see if one goes or stays.

I am totally impressed with the Holo Cyan 2. Really a decent dac. Good all around here. Second place but really close is the Soekris 2541.

One thing that can sway you opinion on these is the difference in the voltage out. the 2541 on Se is 2,0 vrms, the Cyan 2 is 2.5 volts …so when ab’ing there is a notable difference in the SPL…making it appear one is “better” than another.

Matching these closely they are really close…a tad different in the “holographic” dept for me…Depending on which music I am playing one or the other is just fine,

Looking at costs and what you get with the Soekris makes its maybe for some a better deal.

Stay tuned for the new Schiit Gungnir 2!

Curious about your impressions of the MJ3 paired with the Gungnir 2, as well as how it compares to the 2541. I had the 2541, and it was a really good DAC.

Loving my MJ3 paired with my newly acquired Yggy MIB vs the BF 2/64. Improved micro detail, instrument separation, and larger sound stage (more depth than width so far).

Those who have posted over on the other forum seem to be liking the Gungnir 2 with the MJ3 as well. A lot of comparisons have been made between the Yggy MIB and the Gungnir 2 though, so not too surprising there.

Having myself a Schiit-tastic New Year, and wishing you all the same!

Mjolnir 3 is being discontinued in a few months as per Jason. If anyone is considering getting one, I would make a decision soon.

Edit: I stand corrected. Jason confirmed that it is still in production, and I misunderstood his original post.

At Mjolnir 3’s $1,200 price point it gives a lot of performance for the money. In another forum it was brought up that once you try higher tier amps you can tell the “limitations” of the Mjolnir 3. The amps mentioned were 3x the price of the Mjolnir 3. So, I will pose this question. How much more are you willing to spend to get a amp that out performs the Mjolnir 3?

Aside: It is a good sign when you have to spend a lot more $$$$ to find something “better” than the Mjolnir 3.

I’d be careful how much weight I’d put into those claims. I was able to audition a MJ3 for a few weeks. It’s a good amp. It does reach up and punch above its price. But it’s not competing with amps 3x its price. It’s not that good. It plays with amps comfortably that are 1.5-2x as expensive. Then you start hearing it fall behind.

Which means it’s still a very good value proposition. It’s just been overblown.

It seems you read my post inverted. I was asking how much someone would be willing to spend to get something better than the Mjolnir 3.

I would hope something 3x the cost would sound better, but is it enough to tempt an individual to drop $3k+ to achieve. Totally subjective as everyone values things differently.

Ah. Gotcha. Depends on the rest of your chain, really. I’d think most people would find pairing it with ~$2.5k DACs and headphones wouldn’t be missing much. The are outliers, of course. Things like HE1000se, HEDD2, used Utopia are going to be held back by it. And no matter what Ryan and Zeos try to say, MJ3 cannot drive Tungsten properly, so that one’s certainly going to suffer on it.

So unless you are spending TOTL money on headphones, at which point you should be doing the same for your source gear, you’ll be fine with the MJ3.

Good point, and this is why I have my Mjolnir 3 paired with a Yggdrasil+ MIB. Sticking with this combo for SS, but I will be buying an OTL Tube amp in the near future.

I will be getting a Caldera Open by the end of this year, but that will be my highest end headphone thus far. Currently my Atrium Open, Arya Stealth, and Horizon Open are in rotation (Horizon being the newest it is getting extra play time).
