Searching for HDMI 2.0 audio extractor to SPDIF/Toslink

Hi All,

My dads Dell G3 3779 is currently connected through the 3.5mm port to his Yamaha amp.
As this laptop doesn’t have SPDIF, I want to extract the audio from the HDMI 2.0 4K/60hz source and connect it through SPDIF/Toslink to my old SMSL 793 ii DAC.

In: HDMI 2.0 4K/60hz
Out: HDMI 2.0 4K/60hz + SPDIF

Does anyone have experience with a good SPDIF extractor from HDMI 2.0 4K/60hz?

Something like this?

I have a bunch of DeLock adapters doing various things. Should be on Amazon.

If your dad is okay with plugging in a USB cable, you could also get a USB to SPDIF adapter.

Most of these extractors work well enough. One word of caution that may or may not be of interest to you: many of them max out at a 48KHz sampling rate. If your dad likes to listen to audio files higher than 48KHz, everything will be throttled down to that rate. If he doesn’t listen to those, or doesn’t care, then any of these are good options. Otherwise, make sure they are spec’d to a sample rate that meets the need.

If you can use USB and have a bit more money
there’s this too gives you Optical, coax I2S and AES/EBU

Hi WaveTheory, good point. His whole cd collection is captured in Apple lossless.
Guess he will benefit from the extra Hz, if he still can hear it

If it’s all ripped CDs the sample rate will be 44.1KHz. If he downloads music from a store like HDTracks or streams from Qobuz or Amazon, then it will make a difference.

Thank you all for the information

This one does 192khz by the way!
(Oops, but not 4K.)
