Sennheiser HD 650 equivalent?

Hello, I’m sorta new here and I have been looking around at reviews for the past 3 days. I am curious if there are equivalents to the 650’s that are not power hungry and that use a more standard 2.5 or 3.5 mm connections instead of proprietary Sennheiser jacks. Something for $250 or less?

I originally wanted a Planar set but all that was in that price range were HE-400i’s and Sundara’s. The 400i’s are out due to the junk plastic arms. And some people say the Sundaras treble isn’t the best.

Any recommendations are welcomed. Thanks.

EDIT: I should have said that I am not looking for super deep bass, just clean sound with decent bass with some sort of soundstage.

The HD58x might be up your alley. Cheaper, same build, more exciting sound with still the senn sound signature, and not really amp picky

Also the new 400i has fixed plastic yokes, and the he 4xx also exists which is the same with a different headband, and the sundara is pretty great, and I would say more boosted treble rather then not great treble

Thanks… Interesting. I could not find any info that the HE-400I head band has been updated.

The HD58x looks pretty good but that proprietary Sennheiser connection on the cans is stopping me from pulling the trigger.

If you scroll down on the description in amazon its says 2018-2019 revision is a reinforced headband

I should also say that the headband on my he560 v1 snapped and they sent out the new reinforced headband and it works just fine

you could also look at the Drop / HFM HE-4xx. they’re excellent planars for $180 and really hard to beat. that would leave your budget open to get the HD58x or the HD6xx off Drop too, eh? or enough to get a DAC and Amp.

I ended up getting the 4xx’s and the FiiO K3. Hopefully the 4xx’s are not defective.

Thanks guys!

the 4xx are awesome headphones.

Yeah the 400i/4xx are great planars. You should be fine, but you may want to pick up a balanced cable to squeeze more power out of the k3
