It would leave me baffled.
wheezing laugh
For real though if this has something to do with bringing Anomaly to it’s final evolution then just go for it man. ![]()

In the end, the only thing that matters is the way in presents the music so if it accomplishes what you want it to, then the how is irrelevant. From a marketing perspective it would be good to briefly explain it for those who aren’t as tech savvy perhaps.
Literally how I feel.
Not sure how this would be practically accomplished, unless you had an IEM that had a full-on chamber to enclose your ear or at least canal; unless I’m mistaken, the point of an open baffle speaker is less about creating a point source and more about letting the soundwaves from the drivers “wrap around” the encluosure, often with calculated surface areas to add or diffract gain, while allowing the room itself to use reflections to allow for a more natural and encompassing sound. An IEM would need both the internal “baffle” as well as pseudo back- and side-walls and floor/ceiling to produce the same effect and also to have proper time delay for the backwave to not arrive out of sync. It wouldn’t be like a flathead earbud with no isolation if its going to mimic open-baffle speakers, at least not as I understand it as a concept.
Isn’t this how he described his use of the concept in Anomaly?
MOB: Miniaturized Open Baffle - Defined by the driver not being coupled to the front air volume in an enclosure (fully)
I missed that but I believe you are correct! That indeed sounds like a proper open-baffle design, I know his venting system is doing work!
Edit: the concept also excites me as my primary speaker setup are partial open baffle (open MTM section wtih a sealed enclosure for the bass), has the best vocal clarity I have ever heard.
To be honest, this is the one IEM I really am looking forward to. The amount of work and innovation he has done on his own is just crazy in the best way possible.
Allrighty. Refined the micro-gap and the shell a hair.
As far as why I think this is very close to real open baffle is this: the driver is not actually sealed inside the shell, there is a microgap which was quite hard to dial in. The driver diaphragm has about a 1mm baffle around it, and since it isn’t air sealed, you get much less shell-front-volume resonances and the air in front of the driver is still coupled enough to make subs . The sound can in fact flow around the driver and out the back of the shell (vent).
I’m in the mood to try tracks and give an impression. I really think I have everything nailed.
I suppose if people wanted to they could post a youtube video/music they really enjoy and/or think is hard for IEMs to replay. I’ll report my impressions. Don’t hit me with too much though. maybe 3 tracks if you feel like it.
we are working with this graph, which should be pretty accurate how I hear it
A couple of my favorites for subtle spatials and “hearing the room/studio”:
Given how you’ve described its abilities, I think these are a great workout/proof of concept test!
Edit: They’re also just great tracks to listen to haha
Make a power metal choice like I know I’m going to. ![]()
First track. The ambient cues are insane, I can hear the acoustics clearly. Id say if anything, the 3D nature is almost overwhelming the vocals.. almost. Turn it up a little more and everything falls into place. Bass is actually tactile on this track, I can almost feel the kicks shaking my ears or something.
I wanna sing along, also I love Tears for Fears though i don’t listen to their entire library.
9.5/10 at 85db. Lower volume, is a little thicker than I prefer, but that aint my style. I would also say, the sound was good enough to make my brain want to hear the entire track, not just scan around. That was ‘fiah’ I could rock that track any day and I will.
2nd Track, Joe Jackson. I can’t complain about anything, though this isn’t my style exactly. No worries though. As with the 2nd track, the 3D swirly stage is almost overwhelming the vocals.. but they still are punching through. Vox are 9.5/10 with a little volume. Guitars are basically studio perfect (I play gutiar). Percussion is perfect, not too loud, not rolled. Just right.
LETS GO!
give this one a shot, Mike.
Hell yeah, I knew Anomaly could deliver on those! I could throw more at you but I’d rather let others get their choices in first!
@RockinDave I trust your knowledge for Power Metal far more than mine haha. I’d do alright with other Metal genres, perhaps.
Allright, when the track starts the vocals are way thick, way over the top. I don’t know if this is how the track is mixed, but I can check on my speakers. As the track progresses, vocals become much more normal. The rest of the mix is very 3D and swirly but also there is not much dynamic range, so everything feels ‘loud’.
7.5/10
cracks knuckles
Alright, here we go. ![]()
OK Dave. I swear to god.. you like the worst music ever created. If my iem plays anything that doesnt make me want to go take a shit, go for it.
Post 3 tracks, make them count.
Holy shit, absolutely brutal
and Dave with the best response ![]()

Over the top and sincere in it’s cheesy-ness power metal song with everything that comes with it, and wanting to know how it comes across in the set.
This will take you back to Glamdring with how using this you found how to tune mine and other sets to 3D-ify songs recorded like this.
Been using this track to test for harshness and I also love the FUCK out of it so much that I’ll put it on repeat so I need to know not only how it sounds but also if I can listen to it without fatigue.
