Something More Fun Coming From H660s

I’ve been using the HD660s for more than a year, and I want something a little more interesting.

I bought the Meze 99 Classics, and honestly they had too much bass, and weren’t super comfortable. I got headaches while using them. Definitely too much bass- I’m still interested in a nice closed back.

I would really like to try something that has a more fun, somewhat more bassy signature. I listen to mostly rap and hip hop.

I was looking into the DT 1990’s, but they do seem very similar to the HD660s’s, so I’m not sure how much of an improvement they will be. I was recommended the DT1770’s, but they overall don’t seem like fantastic headphones.
I’m also wondering how the HD660s’s compare to the “AEON OPEN X”?

I have the JDS Element 2, so resistance isn’t really an issue.
Budget hopefully $300-600 range.

Thank you!

Thanks for the welcome!

And thanks for the suggestion, I’m definitely interested in those and need to read some reviews.

AH-D5000, Phonon SMB-02, Focal Elex = Elear with Elex pads.

Thanks for the suggestions!

The AH-D5000’s look pretty cool, and I’ll also research those!
The Focal Elex looks great, but a little out of my budget haha.

Adorama has the Focal Elegia go on sale for $400 often and you could probably score the Elex used at your budget.

Zeus. The HFM EXS might be a good reco, sounds like tuning is a bit more V-shaped than the traditional tuning they’ve had in this price range. I do think planars are generally good on the rumbly deep-extension of electronic bass. The HFM planars I’ve experienced do a good job of not burying the bass.

When listening to hip hop, I personally get nervous about some of the typical bass cannon reco’s, because a huge piece of it is not losing the MC in the mix. As an affordable and easily portable can in the stable — I’ve oft used my 58x for hip hop. So, I’d be approaching the search from nearly your same place.

It was hard to ascertain from your original post, but if you’d like a do-all closed back that isn’t a bass monster, but I think would be satisfying from where you’re coming from (and doesn’t have the sins you didn’t like about the 99’s) then the Elegia’s as mentioned here should make sense for an all-in-one solve at that price they’re at.

Then there’s Team Argons that should be coming in the room any second… and the Nighthawk Gang!

A lot for me to look at! Thank you!
I’m still super new to this hobby, so I have very little idea how to compare these but I will absolutely look into all of these.

Thank you writing that all out!
