When gatekeeping system is a win
how vulnerable is this to rain outside?
And wind noise if biking? ![]()
Are the edges rounded (chamfered?) off?
Like this?
Which I believe should help reduce turbulence and port noise (at least for subwoofers it does), but dunno if it actually does much in tiny iems.
He hand operated machine drilled it with a bit i think?
I dont see a chamfer there, at most some light hand sanding on the sharp edges maybe…
@Ohmboy sorry for summoning you in this thread
Any chance this guy is a bot?
If you are referring to Rikudou_Goku has been around the forum for ages.
Believe he is talking about a post that is now gone, that did indeed seem bot-ish.
Lol not him
There was a guy promoting some kinda electro static driver for headphones i think
Ah, got it. Was already gone by the time I read your comment.
Oops you meant Variations. Yeah I used a drill bit. There is no wind noise. I suppose it just cant get into the vent easily.
My own iems are all chamfered. Vents, channels, everything.
I’ve probably rerun the calculations a thousand times, and I think I will have to settle in on a 15dB drop if I’m going 8ohms route (+/-0.1ohms across the spectrum) and if going 4ohms (±0.1ohms), the loss is 10dB. Since we are dealing with almost perfect Output Impedance, OI</= 0.1ohms, it should be more than fine I think.
No worries buddy, that dude posted some random grille pic and when you asked him to explain wtf it was he didn’t even have the good grace to reply to you on your own thread. Needless to say he’s been removed for spamming and rudeness ![]()
Thanks a lot. Best mod on the site ![]()
Aight, question to any Pro audio guys, cos at the end of the day, I’m just a builder with little to no knowledge.
The Night Fury is now sitting at 6.5ohms -/+0.15ohms 1hz~20k, Distortion roughly measures <0.25% throughout the FR. My guy runs a Moonriver 2, so far we don’t have an OI figure at hand, but it should be near perfect source, probably runs less than 1ohms on the OI,the SPL drop vs Variations is roughly 15dB…
Point is, right now my guy is running through after all the upgrades testing tracks and whatnot, turnsout the amp clips, not hard but distortions in some songs like Kanye- Praise God, the drops are having distortion. Told the guy to try checking with a preamp cos I sure as hell know the build is bulletproof, so He did it, the distortion disappears around -6dB on preamp, so its a amp/ song issue? @Rikudou_Goku @shortbus what do you think is happening here?
Pretty simple, dongle is current limited which is very typical for them. They have near zero impedance but current ability isn’t great.
Could be
It is 200mw
Volume is usually voltage based so current could be the problem…
I worked out the the power, this iem gets pretty loud at 30/100 on windows through the moonriver high gain (it is usually on high gain)
no chance it is 200mw into 6ohm
Nah
I meant moonriver is limited to 200mw
The iem taking 30% of that so that’s like 60mw or so
I’m just wondering how current limitation works per mv increase.
Its just a poor device. I simply will not use dongles myself.
