Fuck
I just ordered a ibasso dc04 ultra bruh
Irc even crinear protocol max dongle uses the same except sg amps
Dc04 outputs near 1W that’s the reason I bought it. Fuck

You are just looking at their marketing. None of these numbers mean anything. You have to find reviews with actual measurements.
I’ve seen some reviews
Maybe I will go through them again. What kinda dac would you recommend at this price tho?
I dont actually see any mW specified on the moondrop page for the moonriver 2 though they just mention the 2vrms/4vrms on bal.
Which if they are using the standard way to measure it which would be at 32ohm, it would mean it has 125mw@32ohm
Another example with more transparent specs would be the stuff from fiio.
Audiosciencereviews is what you should look at for measurements, although they havent reviewed the moonriver.
Haven’t seen a dc04 ultra review
I need something on a similar level without the same dac but similar power
Idk if anything can beat dc04 ultra in power, I think a 6db preamp sacrifice is ok imo.
Wish there was a better alternative.
This site is also good to check.
They dont have the dc4 u though but dc4.
4vrms at around 300ohm but at around 32ohm it is 0.5-1vrms
I’m looking for a 6vrms output.
you can forget about that for anything portable i think…and you would go deaf with that much power as well…
ok nvm it DOES exist but that price lol.
Output Voltage: 9Vrms(4.4mm), 4.5Vrms(3.5mm).
Output Power: 1700mW+1700mW(32Ω).
True, the dc04ultra was supposed to be the portable experimental powerhouse, I tend to do a lot of system tuning with a bunch of resistors that increase the branch impedances a lot and also result in a low impedance load but that’s just my projects, the night Fury build was just a lite version of it. ![]()
And headroom
I like having loads of headroom, also I don’t think I’ll ever be able to afford a dap that has near 1w power.
Just calculate with +20db extra for headroom over your average volume. So if you listen to 70db average then calculate for 90db.
Yeah, but we are looking at sensitivity lower than helios in potential builds it might be like driving 2 Helios ![]()
On the other hand, I did outdo their performance when it comes to FLAT. However 1 less driver (dedicated range driver, not multiplier of a similar driver) tend to take less current. If it was 4 individual drivers with their own range and sensitivity, that would potentially add another 20~30ma based on the listening level…
Imagine doing that for 7~8 dedicated range drivers and crossover components depending on the goal which could also be super inefficient. The loss in sensitivity is ![]()
My desktop amp is a Topping L70 which fucks hard. For iems, you cant find better really. X talk is 120db or better. It has 0.5or lower impedance. It Isn’t current limited for any IEM anything ever.
For mobile Radsone ES100 which gets up to around 0.5 ohm OI and 40mw @ 6ohm with no current limiting. That is plenty for any of my personal iems. Key factor is it has a battery. Isn’t sipping power from a usb C connection.
Question,
If you had the opportunity to choose between Getting a Mojo 2 2026 and something else vs a Fiio M33 R2R. What would you go with?
Actually, throw in the RU9 for comparison.
A) Clinical, surgical portable DAC AMP
B) Practically Clean sounding DAP, also powerful asf
C) Portable Warm DAC AMP that also has tube option (Dual AKM chip inside)
price wise B>A>C
What’s a good option here?
Also, power output is practically half on option A
I have compared a few amp dac failures/clip scanarios, so here’s what I’ve come across, also AI explaining the stuff which I tried to reason and verify
The new build clip is a current and could also be a distortion problem but preamp does fix that. The clip/distortion observation here was the bass driver/subwoofer sounding like a broken driver. Probably the dacamp trying to clip like a squarewave output.
I’ve noticed an earlier experimental build of mine clipping an amp in a way there’s like a 20dB drop for like almost half a sec on bass drop, so that was unexpected current suck up that could potentially destroy an amp
There was also a time when song went completely off pitch/tone, probably sudden current suckup overpowered/messed up the clock timing on the portable dongle/dac. It probably won’t happen on a desktop amp…
My current ISI (immune system inpedance) tech draws a constant current like a resistor. An intelligent circuit that will not let amp swing, and distribute any available powers to the drivers, chances are if there’s SPL spikes in a particular range, the current isn’t enough, it converts to square waves or rather hard ceiling on the subbass transient curve, anything exceeding the ceiling is sliced off like a hard edge than a curve which essentially sounds like square wave. So only problem here is the current ceiling which can be bypassed with preamp, current draw is lower on a higher V rail.
All handled by my current build’s what I’d like to call as barricade resistors that tank the problem and dissipate them off as heat, saving both amp and drivers. Only con is amp kinda heats up, also loose voltage due to impedance clash.
They removed the Continuous Zoom on the Telephoto module… ![]()
4K Display gone, Optical Zoom gone.
3.5mm Jack and SD card still exists, so W ig
Interesting phones for this year would be from Motorola, from what I remember, GrapheneOS and Motorola gonna work on GrapheneOS supported Motorola Phones.
Year of wide foldables, Interesting to see how iPhone Fold will stack up to Huawei’s Pura X Max.
If you ask me DAC and amps don’t change the sound. I already gone in depth about that before.
Ok, regardless of the sound then, What would be a good choice here, I think the Mojo 2 is no longer on the list of considerations, Just the M33 and RU9.
I would just pick based on features (like PEQ), design (does it look good to you, where are the buttons placed), price (lower is better ofc)
For me it comes down to M33 is a DAP, RU9 has a Tube that’s portable, non-R2R but has a favourite DAC of mine. Only con being I’m limited to using my phone as the DAP. Both makes sense in their own way, just that I’m really on a fence here lol.
Tubes LOOKS damn cool (i am a sucker with 3 portable tube amps…) but I really dislike how noisy/unclean the sound is with them especially with iems…for high imp buds and hps it is fine though although usually has rolled off sub and treble.
