Joni mitchell asked to be taken off of spodify.
This is the best place to buy music that I know of. Lots of old and rare music for sale I’ve never found anywhere else.
It’s no all MP3 music. They have a ton of FLAC.
I like the “conspiracy” that Neil is doing this just because Spotify never came through with Hi Res streaming, and we know he literally cares enough about this he tried starting his own platform. Joe’s been having on “controversial” Rona guests for 2 years… Why now?
That being said, I started with Tidal because I had a Zen- I had something that did MQA so why not give it a shot? I liked Tidal’s discovery and being able to get info on the production team was very much appreciated. The apps were glitchy- especially the mobile app, and so when my subscription expired I tried Amazon because as a Prime member getting it for $8CAD month is a deal. And wow… Sounds so much better. I liked Tidal as a platform better, but if I want I have the power to google who mixed something, and I have the power to research new music- what I don’t have the power to do is magically make the music I’m being fed sound better, so Amazon wins.
That being said, Id love to try Qobuzz, but my understanding is that if they do exist in Canada, their catalogue is incredibly small. Fix that, and ill entertain paying more to switch.
I wonder how many Neil Young and Joni Mitchell fans have COEXIST bumper stickers on their cars.
The YT Channel “Arte Concert” (french/German) channel had some pretty concerts.
If you haven’t already, take a listen to episodes #1747 and 1757 where he interviews Dr.s Peter McCullough and Robert Malone. That should answer your question.
signed up for Qobuz today (Germany). I guess I am sold on the whole MQA scepticism thing, and besides, I don’t own an MQA-enabled DAC. so far so good, but man, why don’t they (and Tidal for that matter) offer a feature for controlling the desktop app from a mobile (iOS) app, the thing Spotify has had for ages now. it’s such an obvious feature… I know Tidal has is in the works, and I wrote as much to Qobuz support… we’ll see… the Qobuz app, at least on MacOS X is iffy: rendering artefacts, freezes, starts eating over 50% of the CPU without any obvious reason. no suggested tracks similar to what Tidal has, no way to extend the album cover completely for a minimalist view during playback. anyway, we’ll see. I hear that Spotify is working on Hi-Res option as well, so who knows, perhaps I will one day make a full circle. have not tried Amazon HD so far, perhaps I should, have Prime too.
Alex jones for one.
I would give AMHD a try, especially since you have Prime. Huge catalog and good quality audio. Takes some getting used to and search and suggestions are not as good or easy as Spotify. I got it recently and overall am pleased.
Qobuz has 70 million tracks. That’s not “incredibly small.” It has weaknesses in some obscure genres, but you’re going to find nearly everything mainstream and even a lot of niches on Qobuz.
I tried Qobuz, Amazon HD and Tidal about a year ago. Qobuz sounded the best. I may give Amazon another shot since I’m Prime, and you can’t beat the price. I’m also awaiting what Spotify does with high-res music.
No interest in trying Tidal again. I think MQA is snake oil, and it didn’t sound as good as Qobuz, anyways.
Signed,
Happy Qobuz Customer
I used Qobuz for some times, but then switch to hdtracks as for me prices were lower on it for the same musics.
I’m quite happy but do go back to Qobuz whenever I cannot find it on hdtracks.
If people are asking the time frame for the whole thing Rogan just starting being a Spotify exclusive the beginning of last week, so the timing makes perfect sense. Spotify paid a pile of money to get him, now they are going to find out how much music they are going to lose in the deal.
Last I knew Willie Nelson, Bruce Springsteen, Barbra Streisand, Queen, Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, Dave Grohl, Joni Mitchell, Nils Lofgren & Pearl Jam were joining Neil Young.
The interesting part is that Dave Grohl and Foo Fighters, there are also rumors he and Courtney Love might pull Nirvana this week.
If thats true, Spotify might really have shot them self in the foot this time…
I saw in the news that the CEO of spotify trying to calm the situation making a statement about new guidelines about content on the platform and an information page about covid-19… not sure if that is enough to please Neil Young, but it does say something about the negativity the whole situation has generated towards Spotify…
Basically Spotify is creating a trigger warning about covid for anyone who isn’t willing to listen to anything outside their bubble. More people will sign up to listen to Rogan now. His numbers are too large for them to care about a few washed up artists. Nothing will come of this. Just like nothing happened to Dave Chappelle over the Netflix situation. If anything happened, more people watched.
Well, all I can say is none of this bullshit makes me re-evaluate my feelings towards Spotify. I don’t listen to Rogan but I have no problem with him being there. Why would I? He does his thing, and that’s fine. I can like it or not, I can believe it or not, I can listen or not. As a reasonable adult I have this ability. If I’m listening and don’t like what I’m hearing, guess what? I turn a knob or click a button and magically it disappears! This whole thing is tribal nonsense.
Again, all I want to do is listen to music. The rest of it be damned. As for Spotify, the day they go lossless or hi-res or whatever you want to call it and can prove to me that they are a better value than AMHD, I’ll consider it.
We’ll find out just how popular and valuable classic rock is to Spotify. I suspect most of us are of the classic rock generation in here and are overestimating the cultural relevance of our beloved genre.
Neil gets 6 million streams per month on Spotify. The Weeknd gets 80 million. Bieber gets 75 million. Adele gets 63 million. Olivia Rodrigo, Drake and Taylor Swift each get more than 50 million.
This Spotify “boycott” won’t have any teeth until a monstrous pop star joins the oldsters in solidarity.
I don’t really think i am overestimating the value of “classic rock”, and i know that spotify will make more money keeping Rogan rather than “a few classic rock acts”… But, spotify being a music service, should really be about music
i am a bit reluctant to change streaming services, as spotify has a few tricks that really like (like sitting in my recliner, using my phone to change songs that are streamed from my computer via my dac to my amplifier as opposed to play via the phone and BT to the amplifier). Also, since all my freinds are using spotify, its easy to share links to songs/albums/artists
Are you in Canada, though? My understanding is that it’s not identical in terms of catalogue between the countries.
