It’s a good time. I don’t always have the time to listen to podcasts but his is enjoyable imo.
I dont think rogan can fill a club outside north america and the english speaking countries. But i think joni mitchell neil young could. Music is universal.
I prefer music to rogan now.
Of course there are the complicating factors that the ownerships of both Mitchell and Young’s catalogues have connections to Moderna and Pfizer respectively…
I have no opinion on Rogan because I haven’t heard the content yet. I have plenty of issue with hypocrites like Young and Mitchell. They can both kiss my ass.
They don’t give a $100 million to just anyone. I’m sure they’re going to ensure there’s a return on investment.
And it’s not just people in the US who listen to Rogan. It’s not just people in the US who want to hear other ideas or sides of an argument. To think this is naive.
I have a free Spotify account purely for the reason of sharing playlists, because it has been a defacto standard for years. This kerfuffle could change that and it seems like Apple and Amazon are the likely beneficiaries. I always hear good things about Qobuz, but I have YouTube music for free ( we have YT Premium for commercial free video ), and Amazon already.
Spotify just started an exclusive deal with him a week ago today, and they paid $100 million for the rights. When you go on the Spotify main page, you are greeted by Joe Rogan at the top of the podcast rankings, so it was fairly unavoidable. Rogan’s audience used to listen on other services with YouTube and Apple Music being the usual places. The suddenness of it was pretty predictable, as was the timeframe. I don’t get Rogan, and I assume that is a good thing.
I think you are exactly correct. It someone big pulled their music, the math might change, but it is purely a money problem for Spotify at this point. They have to think that Rogan is bringing in a lot of money to have paid $100 million for the rights.
I am curious what the income breakdown is for Spotify or Apple music on the music vs podcast side of the streaming audio.
Me too….
I agree but this thread is now so entwined it would be like trying to separate Siamese twins
Not sure why there’s so much hype for Spotify… Qobuz is better
Try it! Lemme know!
I think if I ever had the inclination to go away from Amazon Music, I would most likely give Qobuz a shot.
So rogan is big world wide ? I listen to music artist from japan and not understand a lick of what is being sung but it sounds amazing.
With movies news comedy talking im going to need subtitles, suck at language.
Sports you dont need to talk O and porn.
Those 3 are universal.
There’s also the fact Neil is pushing all of his fans to Amazon. You know, the same company that pays its warehouse employees sh*t, grossly underreported COVID cases in its warehouses, reduced its COVID sick leave time this year, etc.
Seems odd for Neil to take such a hardline stance against Rogan and Spotify and then climb into bed with Bezos, who f*cks his warehouse workers almost as much as Spotify screws artists. I know Neil’s protest is about COVID misinformation, but Amazon’s record isn’t exactly spotless in that department, etiher.
How evil is apple. Because apple music on an appletv is groovy as all get out, Hail satin. Not hard to imagine apple bundling all of its media content on a single app. They bundle currently with the subcriptions.
There’s also a bunch of people jumping to iTunes. Seriously? They’re literally picking slave labor over free expression.
The ol objective vs subjective debate.
How about those speaker elevators.
They now offer a spot that is 10 dollars cheaper for hifi aka cd quality music that hasn’t been tampered with by mqa… So basically it seems as if they are trying to faze it out cause idk why u would pay an extra 10 for master mqa which to my ears most of the time just compresses the dynamics and everything seems closer in volume and sound stage seems lost sometimes also. Some times the mqa Makes things pop in music that normally wouldn’t be a forward in the mix and is fun but over all I would say it’s not as good especially when they upsample tracks.
I went back and located the video. It was a Cheap Audio Man piece where the title was “Is Tidal Ditching MQA?” As you get into the piece you realize right away that they are NOT doing that, really. They are wrapping it up in an over-priced tier. If anything, they are distancing themselves a bit from it, as they should if they are going to compete at all. But they are still offering the scam up. Screw that and screw MQA. Everything it touches becomes more expensive. It solves a problem that doesn’t exist. I want nothing to do with it. And I still don’t see how they beat Amazon Music for me, a service that as of this moment I am happy with. So, it’s still a non-starter.
I had Amazon music before but I found that the music suggestions were not as good the algorithm just didn’t seem to work as well and didn’t have alot of music I was looking for back when I tried it. Tidal in my opinion has a way better algorithm and the layound is much nicer. Apparently tidal also has a larger catalog but idk how accurate of a statement that is in 2022…
With them you never know! And none of them are perfect, Amazon Music certainly isn’t. But I have seen the improvement as time is going on, and they are always asking for input from the community, which I think is cool. The algorithm seems to be getting better as well. I agree with you that at first I wasn’t feeling many of the suggestions they would offer up, and the interface was kinda klunky. But it keeps getting better, and as long as I am enjoying the experience, I’m good.
I’m glad that Tidal is trying to improve things. I always associate them with MQA, and you know how I feel about that. By doing what they are doing they have given themselves a decent shot to compete and survive. I guess we will see how things play out.
