TH-X00/TR-X00/E-MU Teak/Denon biodynamic general discussion

The Auteurs are better in almost every technical area. The only things the Ebony have are a more impactful bass and they are a bit lighter. I have owned the Ebonies for over a year.

Get the brass so it looks like a proper antique.

A gentle polish and a soft cloth should do the trick. I would ask Mark what he recommendes specifically as he much more knowledgeable than I and I’m sure he would be willing to help.

thats where im leaning, this and a similar color bottlehead :ok_hand:

What do you mean by ā€œa similar color bottle headā€?

Has anybody tried the Auteur and the Vertie closed?

Bottlehead Crack, tube amp

Ahhhh ok thanks, that’s what I thought but I wasn’t 100% sure

Hi all!
I’m new to the forum so please be gentle.
I’m currently running with an lcd-2c and ifi signature dac/amp but really am missing something with the setup - and I believe that to be the lack of bass slam which my unfortunately misplaced old D-2000s had surplus amounts of.
As I’ve been out of the game for some years from what I gather the THX-00 seem to be the kings of mid-fi bass. Being in the UK the THX-00s are a no go due to import costs + availability, are the TH-610s just as capable as the THX-00s with a little bit of eq or are these using a different driver?

Ideally I’m looking for something with slam and impact while retaining the LCD-2s detail as I can’t justify collecting headphones currently, and since 80% of my listening is to electronic music, something with slam will most likely stay as my main headphone.

If anyone has experience of the TH-610s’ detail compared with the LCD-2s I’d love to hear about it! Ideally I don’t want to go the whole way for the TH-900s, but I really don’t want to find the TH-610s way behind my LCD2-s in terms of detail!

Apologies for the wall of text!

The 610 7se the same driver, just with a slightly different tuning. It’s a bit more neutral than vthe X00s but it still has great bass quality band extension. A pad swap (I recommend ZMF Ori) and some purple heart cups from E-MU and you should be set.

That being said, if you haven’t already, take a look at the E-MU Teaks. They are cheaper than the 610 and you can get the purple heart cups at the same time.

Thanks for getting back to me!
The TH-610s are looking very tempting, if they don’t agree with me I’ll have amazon’s fantastic returns policy on hand.
I think that after trying some open headphones I can appreciate the soundstage and imaging they offer, there’s just something about the warm bass from a good closed back which clicks with me.
How do the TH-610s compare with the new Denon 7200s in terms of slam with a little eq? From the sound of it the 7200s are a bit more grown up and neutral so I think the fostex will be the way to go but interested to hear opinions on this!

I’m not well versed in the Denon X200 series. I think the driver might have changed a bit, but don’t quote me on that.

What I do know is they are not compatible with Lawton cups (at least not officially).

Does anyone have experience on how the TH900 Urushi red cups sound on the X00?

I have a feeling that is a rather uncommon swap. I imagine most people put the purple heart or ebony cups on the TH-900.

Yeah I imagine it wouldn’t be much of a change or an upgrade at all. I probably just need to chill out and not to just spend money hoping it will make my X00 better. After hearing about the Auteur being an upgrade I’m getting eager now.

They would definitely have a sound change since they are a fairly unique wood (I think they’re japanese cherry). My point was more that if someone had access to TH-900 cups, they probably also have the TH-900, so they would more likely want to play with those over the X00s they likely had prior.

I know Lawton sometimes sells TH-900 cups and I am also curious as to how they sound on the 1 tesla models.

Anyone know of where I can get a removable cable mod done to my TH-X00’s?

If you look further up in this same thread I think @WaveTheory talked about doing his own mod. He said it was relatively straight forward.

I know Lawton Audio can do it but it is spendy. The conversion is $129 but you have to buy one of the Black Scorpion cables - a very good cable albeit but on a 500 headphone I’m not sure it makes sense.
