get an OTG cable and get yourself a small “standard” dac like dragonfly red/ black / cobalt, and pair them line out to your atom
quite a bit of expenses there though 
I connect my phone to my nightstand headphone setup using am OTG cable. The only trick is to find a powered DAC (as opposed to one powered by USB) so it doesn’t drain your battery.
This solution works very well.
I will even stream large losess files from my desktop computer, through my phone to the DAC. But that’s sort of next level, and probably an unnecessary amount of complexity for any sane person.
Yeah, probably better off with the FiiO BTR1K or BTR3 in terms of value for money, since they can both be OTG-wired but also have Bluetooth, and I’d bet neither sounds worse than the Dragonfly Black at least.
If the source is an iPhone and you want to go the wireless route you will need the BTR3 though, as the BTR1K doesn’t “speak” AAC, and you might not want to go as low as transmitting through SBC coding to your Atom.
I read many people say JDS Labs is going to come out with a new atom and a dac to go with it. Any guesses when that might happen? I was thinking of getting an atom but if a new, more pretty looking atom gets released i rather wait for it.
I was waiting for this new dac and new atom. But then drop thx 789 happen with sdac balanced. I know the sdac balance is no good but i think i will be fine. they have 20 days to come with some news before the drops end 
Thanks for all the suggestions! So as much as I didn’t want a decently sized footprint, I just took my SU8 to work when the Atom got here and ran the USB from the DAC to the IPhone with the Apple CCK. Thoroughly enjoying the Tin P1s through the Atom!

for “lightweight” i use SR15 (3.5mm LO USB DAC mode) + atom, for “anchoring” i use UD-301 RCA to atom
JDS have confirmed that there’s no new Atom on the way. I have no idea if they’re going to release a new DAC though.

That’s a good dac, but check out the schiit modi 3 if you don’t need dsd. It has a longer warranty, looks good, has the inputs you need and measures well. Either would be great though. I went with the modi 3 because of the longer warranty and if something goes wrong I won’t need to send it to china.

Thanks for recommending the Modi 3. After doing my homework, i think it’s perfect for what i want and it’s alway nice to support an american company. I’ve decided to just pull the trigger and get the modi and atom next week. i guess I’m impatient lol
You won’t be disappointed! It’s a great dac. I have two in use and I’m about to order my third for the setups I use.
