Could you please tell which dac are you use with it? Thank you:)
I use a Bifrost 2
Somebody did a comparison of A30 pro to their A90 amplifier? Interesting how comparable singxer amp to this one
4:20 :
Edit: He also said the D30 pro adds a bit of soundstage because of the 4 dacs inside… so if paired together it’s ok. Still not full-balanced and the A90 is, I think.
Also, the A30/D30 pro stack is probably smaller than you think.
Thank you, then i think i will try A90 amp, currently using d90 with a30 pro. Previously i purchased amp and d30 pro dac,but i did not like the dac at all and already sold it, got the d90 instead and i think it sounds very good, i like this dac, i think it is goodall rounder for this money(700 bucks)… And the question was, is it worth to get a90 amp for d90 connected via xlr and to se headphones from amp… And after your response i will get it 100% to try:)
I have info from my friend, that in June should be sale period on shenzhenaudio shop, but i don’t know when exactly, i will wait for discounts and currently thinking about two amps sa-1 or a90 for d90 dac. All my headphones are SE.
Compared A30 pro vs Singxer SA-1 for single end headphone usage, i purchased both and compared them side by side with dt 1990 and 1770 250 ohm. I prefer A30 pro much better, because A30 is faster, cleaner, more punch and dynamic in bass region, much more power for se output, even with 1990 headphones i was able to max out volume on SA-1, on A30 pro the same volume level only with 45-50 percent. The only one thing SA-1 do better than A30 pro is the stage size, soundstage is larger, but in every other aspect such as: speed, details, overall sound dynamics, from my point of view - A30 pro is better. I sold my SA-1 today, and i think it is a little bit overpriced, because with a30 pro only for 350$ i get more details from sound, more punch, more engagement.
When i decided to buy SA-1, i already own A30 pro, with customs SA-1 price was doubled in comparison to A30 pro, and after it was delivered it was big disappointment, because sound is muddier, slower, attacks was much slower, i tried dc mod, it improved sound a little bit, and tried burn in for 120 hours. After all this steps i tried to like SA-1 because of more nice form factor, it stacked better with my dac, and the volume control pot feels better, but im sad to say -there was no success. Maybe with balanced headphones Singxer sounds great, but, when you need only Single end connecting, then A30 pro is your choice.
Sorry for bad English.
My current chain is: Topping D90 - Topping A30pro - DT 1990/1770
P.s. I also tried Topping A90 amp for better stack with d90, but the A90 sound boring and flat in comparison to A30 pro, but again the soundstage was a little bit bigger. I hope my impressions will help you with decision.
For me it’s a little bit strange, that there is so many forum posts for SA-1 amplifier on different forums, and almost dead discussion for A30 pro amplifier, i think audiophiles/musiclovers skipped this devices because of the cheap price, but for me - this amp is GEM.
Is there any chance that you could compare SA-1 and A30 pro in terms of their balanced output as well?
Sorry but i can’t, already sold SA-1. Will be interested in impressions of other people too:)
@volikovvv yes i was surprised at what little talk about think amp there was, yes its just another OP amp based topping design howerver i think it sounds much better than most of their previous amps and even schiits lower end amps as well even though they all use similar OP amps. i dont know why but its linear without being bright or sharp and extremely dynamic and detailed. using with a bit warmer DAC like zen DAC v2 ads a bit of texture to the bass and mids without losing to much detail over my SMSL m300mkII which was just a little too bright for me and i was hoping it wasnt the AMP and it was just the DAC. a30 pro is easily an end game amp for most people IMO.
Yeah this amps deserves to be talked much more. Seems it beats shiit similar priced offerings. And one of the best topping amps. Only people recomending a little warmer dacs for its companion. So as i have d50s it could be not the best choise for a30pro. As it is revealing and linear similary. And buying other dac as d30 pro isn’t good choise for me. But other way i would choose it not thinking at the prise it is sold.
It is endgame for many not wanting to spent considerably more for little upgrade.
I’ve been trying to find out if there would be a benefit to swapping op amps in the A30 pro but haven’t found anything and was also unable to find any pictures of the inside that actually showed anything
open it up and take some pictures! idk why i never opened mine up when i had one.
Well I won an auction because nobody else bet anything lol trying to cancel the order now since I wasn’t able to find anything out
To quote Dave (EEVBlog):
Don’t turn it on, take it apart!
If be interested to hear your opinion on using a 220-250ohm impedance adapter to trick it into class a mode for lower impedance planars. I never tried that while I had it on hand but maybe that changes how well it plays with planars?
Seems like all that would do is drive up the output impedance, yes? Don’t know how that would be a good idea. Seems like you should just buy an Asgard 3 if you’re US-based or look for a Lake People G103s if you’re elsewhere.
Just to update, my A30 Pro that I’ve been using since October died tonight. I was just listening and suddenly, massive static. I turned the unit off immediately. It would not come back on, and any attempt to do so resulted in a relay click and the power LED flashing. Luckily, it didn’t take my headphones with it.
Also luckily, I got the unit inside the Christmas return window from Amazon, so I can get a refund. It’s a real shame as I love the sound of the A30 Pro in combination with the D30 Pro DAC, but I’ve seen too many reports of failures on the A30 Pro to risk it again (especially without the prolonged return window).
I’m using mine since May and don’t have any problems yet. I hope it won’t die as well
I’m blown away by how low the amplification on this thing is. I thought it was meant to be a powerful amp but everyone is just lying as usual. Its literally 20% above line level. I thought I would have decent headroom and be able to use it with a passive mixer and stuff but that’s not happening. It’s hilarious it has 3 gain levels. My DAP is literally louder than this. And it has the audacity to get hot too, even the volume knob heats up. What is the high price even for. I thought I would be able to try out some planars and stuff but I wouldn’t be comfortable gambling that it will work. Obviously it’s “useable” turned almost all the way up but so are amplifiers that cost 5x less. I tried it with HD 6XX, DT770 80ohm, and SE215. Somehow SE215 is the best with this amp, I don’t know why. I’m pretty used to how they sound, on this they sound really big and open.
