So I have been looking around for a tube pre to replace my McIntosh tube preamp I eneded up talking with my local amp builder (matchless) and we came up with a new hifi pre amp with 6 tube stages per channel based off my McIntosh circuit. Just curious if anybody as some suggestions of others or if there was any interest in ours. He said he will only make them if I can get 10 or more orders in. If you know anything about guitar amps Matchless is about as good as it gets and you will get the same treatment here. Are there any other tube pres out there before I go down this path???
Looks cool. No ducats at present. Question: Is that all metal toggle a shorting risk of any sort?
No.
Except for really shitty toggle switches, the lever and the switching element are not electrically connected. Else they would pose a severe shock hazard.
If you’re looking at small firm custom built preamps. Mapletree Audio and Decware both sell Tube Phono Preamps
I’ve had my eye on Modwright preamps for quite a while, but have not pulled the trigger on one yet.
No its only a power switch running from plug to transformer
I think they were trying to find anyone interested in a tube pre-amp in order to garner enough interest to get an order for 10 units, so more would be made.
Yeah its going to be a different switch. Just an on and off but whats shown here is just a proto/proof of concept
