Those are in comparison
Sorry, I swear Iām not trying to be dense, I just feel like Iām missing thing. Above it looks like youāre mentioned 4 headphones, 880, 990, 1990 and T1. All in order of price. You didnāt say which ohm version of the first 2.
I noticed you guys suggesting get the 600 ohm version over the 250.
So the 880 and 990 come in 32, 250 and 600 ohms
The 1990 and T1 each are only offered one resistance 25, 250 respectively (based on their website).
If we just look at the 990 in 250 vs 600 ohms, what difference is there?
Again if this is a dumb question I apologize.
T1 is 600 ohms vs 1990 in 250 different yet similar
250 ohm is a sharper v shape. Its brighter bassier and mids are less pronounced. 600 ohms dials it back and refines that signatureā¦ less bright issues, more controlled bass as 250 ohms bass is quite the issue in fps, better present mids which helps as well. Essentially just a refinement to the point I see it as straight better in 600
Below is the comparisonā¦ 250 ohm in blue
Wow, on my phone the 1990 was showing 25, with the 0 spaced well away (just checked again and it looks like 25 0 I think I read that as 25.0. Doh.
For the T1 I was looked at 3rd gen by accident.
Perfect, thank you!! Thatās exactly what I was trying to understand.
Going off topic, how do the T1s compare on imaging vs other sets within a few hundred dollars? I fell in love with imaging in college when I spent all of my money to buy a set of Magnepans.
Ah magnepans I lovem to death but those are so picky on where you put them.
T1 is my own personal competitive headphoneā¦ I preferred it over the 1990 for its signature. Their are plenty in that price with great imaging thoughā¦ denons, sennheisers like 660s, hifiman arenāt better but still nice like sundara, new gl2000 is quite nice just heavy.
In comparisonā¦ honest the 2nd gen t1 is like a mini hd800s the only other that started getting close for me was the gl2000 and of course its brother the 1990. In terms of strictly imaging for gaming? If were not talking soundstage and other aspects that help imaging just the imaging itselfā¦ hell tygr 300r over there and dt 990 are just as good in that regard for cheaper
It boils to just what your searching for really.
Yeah they are super picky. When I moved into my place 12 years ago I kept them in storage as I didnāt want to sacrafice where I placed them. I pulled them out and tried them on the wall and itāsā¦ sadly awful. They just need every inch of that 3ā of empty back space. I simply canāt do them justice right now.
I got my GL2000ās tonight and just placed them on my head for a quick listen. They are super plush, and immediately liked them more than the AKG 701s. I threw on one of my favorite songs and wasnāt hearing as much imaging as Iād get out of the magnepans, but maybe my expectations are too high.
Coming from Astro A50s for gaming everything Iām hooking up is an improvement. Those things are so base heavy, and while fun they have close to zero imaging.
At first I thought Iād be able to get a gaming and music headset, and then use a 2nd for cleaning up dialog tracks. Now Iām thinking I should have gaming, fun, and studio headphones. Iām hoping the GL2000s will work as fun.
Studio Iām debating what to get, and clearly gaming Iām considering too.
They areā¦ okay on imaging not laser accurate really but passable I just donāt like how hefty they are to me
Fun? Should get argons insteadā¦ bassy deep sounding planar
I meanā¦ if in studio you need something analytical and open back works 1990 is great at picking out every flaw in musicā¦ painfully soā¦ it liked to ruin my music lol. Ruffling of shirts, random mic bump thatās subtle, etc just all the errors
How would you describe them then. Actually, donāt tell me, since I have them I can test them out over the next few days.
I hadnāt thought of the 1990s for the dialog work. I was thinking the AKG K371 (audio science review rates them super flat) and for $120 they are pretty impressive. I was giving the K701 a shot, but I think the ones I bought are fakes off Amazon as they sound hollow compared to everything else (they were $210 vs msrp 450 so I thought Iād try it anyway). Then HD 600 or the NDH20ās are under consideration too.
Of course not having as many headphones aroundā¦ okay truthfully, dual use for studio work would be awesome so I have a variety of other headphones for fun. Iām also not too concerned about the studio headphones since I have some Focal Shape 50s showing up (I thought 1 tonight and 1 tomorrow but nothing yet).
What do you think about the LCD X? A few people recommended it in Zās telegram. It looks like the 2nd Gen T1s are only available for 900+.
I think itās good but if ima pay that much Iām going to go buy an arya instead
That was another that was suggested too.
Since they pop up so much, what about the one of the Clear versions? Thatās in their price range now too. I havenāt heard any of them so I canāt judge. Just curious. Iām listening to the GL2000s now and will see from there what I might change.
Itās as dry as it gets
