UM Mest MK2 Is It Good For Bass Head

Nope. It has great quality bass, fantastic soundstage, imaging and layering but not a bass set. Not enough quantity to satisfy bassheads

Seconded on all of this.

Thanks! I’m planning to upgrade from the IE600. I love the bass on the IE600, but the mids aren’t smooth. I also have the IKKO OH10, and I like its texture, but the IE600’s bass is just better.

I just picked up an IE600 a couple of days ago. Loving it. For bass you should consider the Fatfreq Deuce. But if you buy it, get it from a retailer, not directly from Fatfreq.
If you like quality mid-bass with less emphasized sub-bass, highly resolving and well extended treble, try out the Acoustune HS1900X Shinogi. It’s better than the IE600. However, mids aren’t its strong point. It does the job and is smooth enough but the focus is on the bass and treble quality

Hi, how do you compare the bass between the Mest Mk2 and the IE600? I am very curious.

Mest MK2 for bass …Works for everything else but not bass.

I love IE600, but for bass I listen to DTE900 (more mid-bass) and Glacier (more sub-bass, but with a very good mid-bass, close to a bass head punchy sound ). :crown:

You saved me, mate. I thought the bass was good because of the many positive reviews on YouTube that I watched. However, that might be not true because I saw a post on Head-Fi mentioning that the mid bass of the Mk2 is not good, lacking slam and punch.

Mine is the Mest OG but I heard the Mest MK2 a couple of weeks back. Either way it needs EQ to get anywhere near satisfactory bass so no I don’t think it’s close to IE600

I would say - avoid. It is an OLD IEM with still fantastic technicalities, but incredibly subpar tonality.
There are many IEMs, cheaper IEMs, that I enjoy much more than MEST Mk2. You will want to sell it after your infatuation with its technical ability weares off.

Thanks for ur advice. Can you recommend any IEM with good bass upgrade from ie600 ? I’m considering the IE900; it might be the best choice for me right now.

IE900 is another IEM with very subpar tonality. I would also avoid.

The new Jomo Nautilus could be something to look into, it’s getting really good reviews.
Thieaudio Origin is another to consider. (This one is like a refined MEST with great tonality and great bass)

I’ve heard mixed things about the IE900 too, especially with the tonality—definitely not for everyone.

OK, lurker here. I have and love the UM Mest Mk2 and will keep them forever (maybe lol). For certain pkaylists I do wish my UMs had more bass but do not want to give up the clarity and balance of the mids and trebs. In general I prefer neutral.

I have had Thieaudio iems in the past and like the brand. Do you have personal experience with the Origin? I just checked Linsoul and see that they are on pre-order with one great review on their site. I like the idea of more yet contolled bass (and it also has a bone conductor) but do not want to give up the mids and trebs to muddiness, etc. I will do more research.

Thanks!

I have the Mest OG and I just tried the Origin a couple of days ago. My impressions are it’s a balanced set that does most things well. I find the timbre of the highs slightly unnatural but the other frequencies are well done. Bass is well controlled, mids are good with no muddiness. And the bone conductor has a similar effect to the Mest though I’d say it’s on a lesser level. I didn’t get the somewhat psychedelic effect that I get with the Mest but then I only spent around 20 minutes with it. I think it’s a good set and I’d like to have a more thorough listen. However, I won’t say it’s an exciting dynamic set, it just does a lot of things very well.
