or do I just have to buy an extra pair of RCA cables?
is there a difference between dual sided rca cables and 2 individual ones? I bought the amazon brand ones and I thought they came with 2 but they only came with one so I bought an extra one.
Only real difference is convenience (because the cables are glued together for most of their length). Signal will be mostly the same (you may get some crosstalk anytime you run cables next to each other, but decent RCA cables are shielded to prevent this). If you already have a decent mono-RCA cable, you should be fine buying a second cable of the same length (e.g. it might sound off if one is really long, say 30 feet, and the other short like 6 inches).
okay good, because theyāre the same exact thing. I just ordered the previous cable I ordered earlier.
Hello, Falenkor! Got my X2ās today. Review here if you are interested. https://linustechtips.com/topic/1302705-review-of-the-x2hrs-and-compared-to-my-990-pros/
Hey there, Iāll check it out later.
Yep was gonna say you just need the other cableā¦
@Falenkor hey Iām curious if you had any more impressions on the dt 990 with the TYGR pads? Iām about to rebuy them and order some TYGR pads for them.
I recommend them, but it does depend on if you enjoy the base signature as well. The filters do quite nicely at depleting the peak but I definitely still prefer the 600 ohm 990 any day of the week over the 250 ohm. It can allow you to change around the signature a bit further with them if you pad swap them but if you love mids, not the best choice of headphone for sure
I enjoy the Beyer sounds signature, I really like them for the soundstage and bass. I have owned the 990 about three times but shortly got rid of them. I do think they were a little peaky at times. I think this time Iām going to try to stick with it and let my brain burn in. from what I understand once the pads break down a little bit the peakiness smooths out.
I know a lot of people say the 770s are more troubly than the 990s. Which I use my 770s all the time and it does not bother me one bit and I love how they sound.
Iām buying back my 250 ohms that I sold someone on headfi. From what I understand the 600 ohms are less bass and treble? I was also going to ask about your opinion on the pads for Beyer headphones, and if Zeos beyer pad swap video holds any truthness. Also curious whatās @Alfredo3001 opinions since heās a huge Beyer fan as well.
Both the dt990 250ohm and 600ohm are good! The 600 ohm has a tad more tame frequency responce. What I learn from owning both at the same time:
-
600ohm slightly even, the dynamics are a little better and more responsive driver. ( need a amp).
-
250ohm can be a little loose, which I like sometimes.
-
Headband is a big factor here. I like the tight fit of the pro headband instead of the edition. This tight headband can change the sound a little bit to. The dt990 pro being a little more forward/engaging. The edition a little relax/wide soundstage.
-
Pads. The dt990 pro pads flatten faster than edition ( clamp force). Black pads ( same as tygr) affect the sound of the dt990, I am not confident in this one, but the add a more soundstage and bass the other frequencies take a tad back, treble still hsve some peak.
Edit: the difference are minimal. Going back and forth after using them. The difference are there but not so much as if you change another headphone.
I highly encourage the 600 ohm over the 250 ohm if you have trouble with the brightness from the 990s the peak smooths out and is much more manageableā¦
Definitely do not hear that myself as an owner of both of those headphones 990 is definitely the brighter of the two by a big margin
250 ohm on the top 600 ohms on the bottom
^ this is what happens when you insert some felt like the tygr filters into the 250 ohm 990, note this does the same for all the beyers that can fit these filters.
250 ohm does have more bass in the upper bass lower mids and more treble, but itās more troublesomeā¦ it has too much bass in the upper regions which causes rumble which is the last thing you want in competitive gaming
Thatās pretty interesting makes me want to definitely check them out, I went ahead and rebought my 250 ohms in mint condition, mainly because they were black edition and I modded them to be dual 3.5. Iām going to go ahead and let him burn and break in a little bit more. Iām probably going to end up trying the 600 ohms at one point. Or maybe buy some 600 ohm drivers and swap them in. The only thing Iām curious about that it might change sonically because the 600 ohms cabinet is more like the 880.
I know you said the Element 2 is a bright amp and not a super powerful amp, so I wonder if I should even try the 600 ohms ones out.
nope, need more power
Well thatās a bit upsetting. Do you feel itās a huge difference? I imagine I might upgrade my amp at some point one day. What amp pairing do you think work best with Beyer headphones? Schiit since they are on the warm side? I think one day I would like to try out the T1 line.
I would say Schiit or Monoprice
Huge? debateableā¦ but it is a nice change and more tolerable
Iām probably not going to upgrade my whole system for a little bit. Do you think the element 2 is powerful enough for the T1?
Nope. 600 ohms and even pickier lol
@Falenkor Iāve tried the whole setup for over two weeksā¦ DT 880 and 990 both 600 ohms, with the Liquid Spark + E30.
Iāve learned that Iāve treble intolerance.
I admire the quality of these headphones, but they simply feel like Iām piercing sharpened pencils in my ears whenever Iāve the sound a tiny bit louder.
Do you have any headphone suggestions in this competitive/qualitative context?
Maybe something that I can use with this setup?
Thanks!
some form of dampener such as the tygr filters can dial that inā¦ but if itās really bad intolerance you may not be able to resolve that and may need something like tygr 300r insteadā¦ I am a little busy this week though so im writing from the phone lol.
I would suggest trying some form of dampener if possible through use of foam, toilet paper behind the pads(3 ply), or something of that natureā¦ you can also dial back that treble through pad swaps a thicker velour will place your ear further from that driver and can help with itā¦ other alternative is equalizing it. Technically you can completely deplete the treble if you change enough but it will emphasize the bass which becomes an issue for the competitive gamer
