so the 58x vs the 880 and an element 2 amp, which combo is a good alternative to the tygr?

880 will perform better but sound a bit brighter due to the element… however that is if it can drive the 600 ohm variation of the 880.

if alternative to the tygr though that would be the 58x as 880 is a bright headphone and 58x is more neutral

so the 880 will need something more powerful to drive it?

880 at 600 ohms is quite demanding… I am not sure if the element 2 has the power for it…

if I recall element 2 is 600 Ī© 165 mW and an asgard 3 is 600 ohms: 300mW RMS per channel… however asgard 3 has to be cranked to around 80% to be ample volume of the 880 600 ohm… meaning more than likely no, the element 2 will not properly drive the 600 ohm beyers… you’d need a more powerful amplifier. Their JDS atom stack however is powerful enough, I just don’t know if it works on ps5

the main problem here is quite literally… will it work on the new gen console… it’s brand new so I have honestly no idea… I can’t even get my hands on one of them for clarification

You may want to look at the Sennheiser PC 38x apparently they’re supposed to be ā€œthe best budget gaming headsetā€ with very good imaging and sound stage. I have no clue since I have not tried them but I have heard a lot of people recommending them saying that they’re better than the TYGR. But again it’s all preference.

Those that claim it performs better than the tygr either 1. don’t like the signature to the tygr or 2. ignorantly are not using ample power to the tygr which ruins it’s imaging capabilities. For some reason people get it stuck in their heads that just because the tygr is 32 ohms it should be able to be ran ampless when the fact is that tygrs use a much older driver and it’s quite a bit demanding due to this… meanwhile sennheiser has a newer driver making it easier to be driven off ampless units… the pc38x is a damn fine headset but that’s all it is… it’s sound quality is sub par with loose bass, meh in the mids, and grainy highs, it lacks separation of sound and sounds like a jumbled mess in large fps, it lacks detail retrieval so more demanding sound placement games it falls very hard… however, you get those who play games with terrible sound engines like destiny 2’s placements or overwatch and think the headset is a godsend… when in reality any of the headphones like 58x will perform near the same degree as the pc38x… if anything, it’s a good option as a gaming headset and that’s all it is… for sound quality… it’s just not good and for casual gaming? I would definitely 100% not even remotely consider that headset.

For competitive gaming? it’s the best headset on the market, but only as far as headsets go. Not really subjective either on that one… most gaming headsets are god awful at placements…

i play warzone so placement is very important to me , well atleast now I know what headset I won’t be getting lol.

It does fairly decent in warzone until you have more distance to your target… it’s soundstage is slightly above the average but in very very heated gunfights that you can get in warzone, it can suffer big time. I owned the pc38x I gave it to my nephew as a birthday gift it was nice… really only bad for the larger fps like warzone, arma, battlefield, Tarkov, etc

for the atom stack that means the atom dac and atom amp from them right? so do I have the connect to both of them simultaneously ?

yeah so that’s gonna be a no for me because all i really play is warzone lol

yep, the atom is the entry level recommendation from them.

you’d just need a set of cheap RCA cables to connect the two units, don’t recall if they give you a pair… but those cables are only a few dollars so no big deal on that.

I think you will be just fine using one of the beyers then… tygr sounds superb on warzone but if your looking for perfect placements with the bright advantage… thats the 990 you want the liquid spark amp for that not the JDS… keep in mind you can use say a Liquid Spark amp with another brand of dac as long as you can connect the two with cabling… all you need is the DAC that can work with ps5

edit: just read that the ATOM DAC uses the UAC2 USB which the ps5 uses UAC1 usb. the atom dac WILL work on ps5 but only due to firmware Connecting a USB DAC to PS4 or PS5 – JDS Labs Blog

this means dacs like the schiit modi will not work for the ps5 without some form of firmware like JDS is offering. potentially the same for soundblaster it appears the ps5 is extremely limited right now

okay so best bet is the 990 with the liquid spark amp, and so the atom dac will work with a form of firmware correct, with a pair of RCA cables?

it goes ps5 -> cabled to the DAC in this case atom dac(I would assume you may need a usb cable whatever form of usb they use for these two to connect them NOTE: make sure you let jds know you need the firmware loaded like it says for the shipping notes so it can work for you out of the box) -> RCA cabled to the amp in this case that would be the liquid spark(granted I prefer the topping D10 for the spark on the 990s or E30 but I honestly have no clue if the toppings will work this is definitely something that will take time to fully figure out) the rca goes from dac RCA out to the amps RCA input -> headphones are plugged into the amplifier’s port

some things to also make sure of and take note… make sure your in game volumes are at maximum values such as if a game has a ā€œmaster volumeā€ not the separate dials for sfx and what not. You want your AMP to be your volume control as if you leave the master volume low and crank that amp you can blow a headphone up from giving it too much power

start in low gain FIRST and gradually work your way up… if going into high gain reduce the volume back to zero and gradually work your way up till you get to a comfortably loud listening volume. low gain and high gain are just a button on the front of the spark in particular

don’t keep unplugging the headphone from a turned on amp this can cause damage… shut the amp off first. Don’t unplug the amp from it’s power port without shutting off the amp and letting it have a few minutes to cool down before unplugging it if you need to move it as amps do get heated

back of jds DAC. RCA ports on the left, USB connection there in the center looks like you will need a particular usb, and the power cable on the right

is it the regular 990s or 990 pro 250 ohm version? plus any brand rca cables would work correct? furthermore, what’s the difference between d10s or e30s? last question, what does switching from low gain to high gain back and forward do?

most like that usb cable will be included, i might need an converter though.

you want the ā€œeditionā€ it’s called they look like this

only the ā€œeditionā€ comes in 600 ohms the pro does not and the edition has the straight cable while the pro has the studio coiled cable.

Also, beyers can come in a wide variety of colors… the all black version does have different pads though which are the same pads on the Tygr 300R if you prefer those… I believe theres a chrome version floating around for the 990 as well…

and of course manufaktor variants only obtainable through special means or in europe

note: all colors are aesthetic only… the sound stays the same unless you are comparing the silver to the black pads or the differences in the ohm changes. 600 ohm sounds the best by a good margin.

pretty much yeah, no need to get crazy… long as they are duel sided cables of course…

D10S is the step below the E30 and slightly cheaper. I used the D10 when I first started along with the spark, it’s a fantastic combination the E30 is quite a bit cleaner and a touch warmer… overall they provide a warmer and slightly thicker while cleaner sound to headphones… by warmer I mean the bass and mids sound fuller and more pleasant… not particularly needed but this combo does help a lot on the treble. Research or asking the company themselves would be needed to verify whether or not the Topping Dacs can work on the ps5… as a particular USB appears to be needed which limits a lot of things.

it’s how much power your amp is pushing out. If it’s a 600 ohm headphone though, just start in high gain your going to need that much power but in very low ohm headphones like a tygr in some amps your better off with something such as the low gain as they don’t need much power. All headsets and headphones respond to the sound qualities from amps and dacs just to varying degrees… this also can include speakers

not sure, not at home to do a bunch of research on that at the moment, so on you to look at what all you will need as far as cables go

do i just tell jds i need the firmware loaded or does it have to be specific

ā€œYou are welcome to describe your firmware request in the Shipping Notes field during checkout and we will load onto your DAC before shipment.ā€

suggest being specific…

All I did in shipping notes is put ā€œI will be using this with a PlayStation 4, Thanksā€

do I need a splitter when connecting my RCA cables from my amp or dac? because when I connect my wire I can only chose to have it go from R > R or L or vice versa and I can only hear it from one side of my headphones
