Honestly, I am not sure where he got that, first I have heard of it… less they are walking on deeper sounding floorboards or something its even recommended to boost the upper frequencies to help with that in warzone by many many people. IIRC “boost high” is actually in the settings… been a while since I played
for the most part yeah, more balanced signature can be a bit easier to work
Sundara is… ludicrously big and airy in that comparison. Imaging in gaming headsets is usually fairly alright though… its the soundstage they lack or just that they are very bassy topped off with lacking sound quality
nothing fully serious, noticeable but can be deemed rather minor.
Then again, thats warzone… the entire sound engine is a joke and makes no sense so I guess having low frequencies involved makes sense… I can’t even properly make use of my own headphones in that game without extensive complications due to just how awful that engine is.
Hello everyone. After reading the whole thread here for several hours and still being a little overwhelmed, I hope that you can help me.
Since I only play on an Xbox Series X and need the party chat, a DAC / AMP is completely eliminated
I’ve used a Sennheiser Game One for the past few years and was very happy with it. Still, I’d like to try something new, so I’m looking for new headphones or a headset. The headphones or headset is only be used for FPS games such as Warzone, Cold War, Battlefield or Vanguard. I don’t use headphones for any other game. Therefore, locating enemies is of great importance to me. I am not sensitive to treble. Borrowed a DT 990 from a friend for a while and had no problems with the heights. But that was a long time ago and I can´t remember how the sound was.
I’ve just written down a few headphones and the prices for them and I would like to hear your thoughts on them.
Sennheiser HD560S (Outlet but new condition 129 €), Tygr 300 R (Beyerdynamic Outlet 119€), Beyerdynamic DT 990 Edition 32 Ohm (BD Outlet 135 €), Beyerdynamic DT 880 Edition 32 Ohm (BD Outlet 135 € ). The Pc38x is out of the question for me as it would cost over € 200 with customs, taxes and shipping.
I’ve had the TYGR, 880 and 560s and enjoyed the TYGR so much. Its actually the only headphone I regret selling sometimes for purchasing a SUNDARA. DT880 is great too but less enjoyment factor and more competitive performance because of the sound signature. depends on what you value more. TYGR does everything well and is the most versatile and fun out of all IMO.
Hi and thanks for your answer. Since the location of enemies is more important to me than the fun factor, the DT 880 seem to be the best choice for me.
I think I’ll give em a try
eh? why would a dac amp be eliminated because you play on xbox?
I see the headphones listed but I absolutely will not encourage 32 ohm beyers from the DT series… they sound dreadfully bad in comparison to the higher ohm variations and your typically better off with something else.
What would be the budget your looking to spend on all this?
The problem is that the Series X does not support a USB Dac / Amp that is not officially licensed.
I got this from the Microsoft forum:
“Any officially licensed Xbox accessory that connects to your console wired or wirelessly via USB works on Xbox Series X | S”.
And unfortunately that’s only the Astro Mixamp at the moment. Therefore, if I want to use the chat, I only have the option of connecting the headphones directly to the controller or to the Mixamp.
My budget would be 300€.
What would you recommend?
That’s rather interesting. I recall people stating the atom works on the new gen just fine… infact jds, soundblaster, and I believe schiit recently retrofitted their firmware to make them compatible though I could be wrong.
Nonetheless if its ampless competitive go with tygr or If a balanced sound is what your after the newer 900 pro x works fine if it’s in your budget. 880 is damn good but only with the equipment and proper ohm version imo. 560s are great if your after a more reference grade sound good mids and a more intimate type of sound. 400se from hifiman I think can run without the amp(request verification first) but it will have the best verticality in budget
I have already asked Mayflower, Schiit and Creative and they have all confirmed that their Dac / Amps are not compatible with the Series X. Creative is probably in contact with Microsoft to offer a possibility, but when it will be ready cannot be said. On the PS5, for example, the Schiit HEL works without any problems, just not on a Series X.
So I think the best I can do is to order the Tygr, 900 Pro x and HD560S and then decide which one to keep.
interesting how large of an oversight this is for the xbox and very unfortunate…
between those three it would really depend on what your looking for in particular. tygr is a subtle V signature, 900 pro x is a very neutral yet bright headphone, and 560s is also neutral bright but has the smallest stage of the 3. Personally speaking any of the three will work exceptioanlly well. Shouldnt really have issues with the new gen driving them either… they are fairly low requirements
Hi, I stopped by Beyerdynamic Heilbronn on my way home from work today. They are only 15 KM away from where I live. It is actually closed for renovations, but I was still able to try out both the 900 Pro X and the Tygr for a short time. In terms of sound, I was very impressed with the 900 Pro. Especially from a competitive point of view. The problem is, unfortunately, that the opening of the ear pads is a little smaller than that of the DT 990. In other words, the opening is no longer so rounded but rather angular. As a result, I had the problem that the pads partially touched my ears, which became uncomfortable after a short time. I was still allowed to take both home with me and test them for 30 days. Now I’m still waiting for the Sennheiser HD 560 S and will then decide. If the Sennheiser comes close to the 900 Pro X in terms of sound, I will definitely opt for the Senn, because so far, I’ve never had any problems with Sennheiser when it comes to comfort.
actually their pads have always had a bit of angle to them just that these new pads are quite a bit different… its a hit or miss in that kind of regard imo… I wouldn’t mind honestly if I could pad swap them but they use a snap on piece thats glued to the pads… so at this current moment there is no replacement to the 900 and 700
nice, I personally like the 560s… but I don’t think I could ever give up my beyers for them. The comfort and performance just isn’t there for me personally but I also have larger ears and prefer larger fps
if comfort isn’t an issue and you play fps outside of like… tarkov or something you should be just fine with a 560s. It wont stage like the beyers but it can place just fine
I mainly play Cod Multiplayer and every now and then a little Warzone or BF. So I think the HD 560S should fit in just fine. Maybe I’ll get used to the pads of the 900 Pro X in the next few days, then I would actually keep the Beyer. I always hear from so many people that they absolutely love the comfort of the Beyers. I don’t know why, but I always had problems with the comfort of all those I owned (DT 770, MMX300). That’s why I kept sending them back. Sennheiser, on the other hand, can be worn for hours without any problems. But you should never say never
curious, I found them extremely comfortable but I did absolutely have to break them in a bit by stretching them out over their box as the head clamp killed it for me. These new 900 and 700 though are the same way for me… the head clamp is killer and makes them very uncomfortable I had to stretch the hell out of mine just to get them to stop being uncomfortable personally.
Though if you find sennheiser to be for you then yeah, absolutely sit with 560s… if you feel 560s is a bit sterile though and a bit too bright you can swing for 58x Jubilee which has similar performance but is on the warmer side of things
I’ve stretched the 900 a little and the comfort has actually got a little better. However, the pads are still partially on the ears, which becomes very uncomfortable after a while.
I also had a look at the 58x Jubilee. The problem is that the Jubilee are around € 220 including customs, taxes and shipping. That would be almost € 90 more than the 560S and I don’t think the sound justifies € 100. And I don’t know whether the controller or the mixamp can handle 150 ohms. Even if Sennheiser are pretty easy to drive.
I have a quick question again, sorry I was just talking to someone on Xbox Live using an AKG K701 and K702 and he said the controller would have no problem driving it. What do you think of these two headphones compared to the others above?
the 600 series in that as well as 700 are virtually quite similar amongst each other with little in changes outside of things like cable. However, they suffer from some imaging inaccuracies… despite this they have a large soundstage and quite a balanced sound topped off with being rather comfortable. K702 though is the analytical one… in that its brighter. k701 was based on a previous model… its alright… then you get k712 and k7xx which are on the warmer side of things since k702 is so analytical it has more recessive bass… the other two fix this by bringing down the treble and increased the bass closer to neutral
please do not hesitate to write on here or message me directly if you have a question. I get that some people don’t like to answer questions and the like… im not one of them, if I can help you I will. If your new here and reading this… please do feel free to ask questions I will get to them as soon as I can.
I got the k702, I really tried to hear that imaging issues, I think as previously discussed they are very minor, somewhat noticeable in the front, at least in gaming. But I cannot stress that it is very minor.
