I had the Sennheiser GSP 600 for some years now and because of audio problems with it recently I would like to upgrade new headphones/ a new headset.
The budget would be 300€ to 400€. I live in the EU so please consider it if it’s something with a bad availability here.
I would manly use them for gaming (mostly RPGs and strategy games) and listening to music (mostly metal or instrumentals, but also across the board). Only playing casual.
I did consider the DT 770 with a ModMic (would be only used for discord) and a dac / amp with it.
The 770s would be around 110€.
Can you give me any suggestions? I only ever used closed back gaming headsets so I’m not really familiar with anything else.
Thanks!
ps. I’m not really used to writing in forums, so sorry if it seems a little bit clunky.
If possible, since your in the EU its a bit easier to obtain beyers usually… you may be able to swing an MMX300 instead… this will be much easier to drive(and may be able to be ran ampless for you so could save you money… otherwise a small dongle dac will help) and it has its own mic on it… the mmx300 is essentially the same as the dt 770 just lower ohms and a mic attachment…
Really depends, what kind of sound are you looking to have?
Getting them shouldn’t be a problem at all. Should be around 200-220€, if they are not custom. One of my colleagues actually recommended them and another one recommended the dt 770.
As for the dongle. I have a FiiO BTR5 that I bought on impuls for my phone last year, lying around most of the time, if that is fine.
It’s quite hard to say, as I don’t have much experience in that regard, but definitely something that is fun to listen to. So more V-shaped as I understand it.
The limit is more so that I don’t spend to much, while having not much knowledge about it.
After going through the forum and watching reviews and so on, I’m quite tempted to get a open back one separately for listening to music and to try it out, sometime after the new headset/headphone.
I will most likely go for the MMX 300 over the DT 770, for convenience sake, if they are nearly the same.
one in the same(almost… slight changes in signature but nothing too large 770 does resolve better since it can have the better drivers at 250 ohms if you can drive them). The 770 is a good option if you shop used since those can be found in like new condition from people around $70-$120… since you mention an amp it may be best to get the 770 instead and a dedicated mic… if a dedicated mic is out of the question though, yeah Id say just the mmx 300(not the 150 or 100 good god those are bad imo)
Yep, then your looking at the right headphone… 770 is V shaped… if you wanted open back its brothers the 880 and 990 will fit that as well with 880 being semi open(it needs a pad swap or some EQ to achieve a V shape) and fully open being 990(extremely sharp V shape… may not be for everyone)
Oh absolutely, dig around too the mmx300 can be found rather cheap at times off others just like the 770 can. Its actually very solid, mic could of course be better… but its damn sure better than about 90% of other gaming headsets out there. As far as ACTUAL headsets are concerned… the mmx300 for me is the reigning champ of the closed back wired, Audeze penrose for wireless and planar, and then pc38x while not the best in technical performances… is easily the best in open back but theres not much to compare that one to begin with since most headsets are closed back.
Thanks for the advice.
I went with the DT 770. If I don’t like them I can send them back for 60 days without a problem.
After I tested it I will most likely get an Antlion ModMic for it.
