Upgrade Path Moving Forward

As of right now, I have a pair of HE6SE V2s which I love to bits, but is there any point in upgrading in the future to a more expensive offering? I know about diminishing marginal returns with regards to headphones and price, but I am just curious.

My current setup:

AMP: Singxer SA-1
DAC: Ares II DAC
Headphones: HiFiMan HE6SE V2s (modded) and the Ether CX for portable use/when I don’t want to hear my Air Con.

I definitely prefer a headphone that is wide in soundstage/warm, not something that forces detail. I tend to get fatigued when listing to a lot of detail. Assuming the budget is “unlimited” what would you choose based on what I have said?

I really have only owned planar magnetic headphones, but I have heard that the Aurorus Audio Borealis is a great dynamic offering that sounds great.

As far as music choice I tend to listen to a lot of soundtracks that are orchestral. I also listen to many subgenres of rock and roll.

Any suggestions would be great. Thank you for your time.

Edit: I have thought about getting the Meze Empyrean used at some point.

can you go anywhere to demo headphones? I would totally check out the Focal lineup. I’ve heard both the Stellia and Clear (original’s, not new MG) and they bring tears to the eye they’re so good (Stellia because it’s amazing and because the price really hurts).

take a gander at estat too? I lost my SR-202’s and miss them terribly :frowning:

I don’t have too many locations where I live in Northern Florida to sample a lot of headphones. At least from what I found on Google. I have not given e-stat too much thought because I thought/ have heard they don’t have too much low end. They tend to have a very wide soundstage though from what I have heard. I’ll have to check out the focal lineup when possible. I don’t think they “look”, in a literal sense, the best, but in this hobby, I guess looks don’t mean much.

they do have low end, but it’s often very dependent on the music you’re listening too. I guess it’s involved with timber as when you listen to cello, it’s not thin but rather deep and meaty.

edit - and I hope some other Floridians can comment on where some headphone shops may be.
