It’s most likely a ground loop. Spent many hours playing with configurations. Same problem occurred with the Hel, but much less frequently. What is odd is humminh and popping in the sundaras, but channels going out in the 990s/770s. Any thoughts on how to solve? Looking around online has just made me more confused . Gonna try to figure this out though.
That’s really strange, your dac is connected via optical correct? That would isolate it electrically from the computer. You could try moving them off the same outlet temporarily and see if that corrects the issue
Something like the Behringer HD400 plus 4 RCA to 1/4 jack cables (or whatever your target/source need) are cheap enough to give it a shot.
Compressed air, pipe cleaners, alcohol, etc. Don’t want to use abbrasives unless it is severly corroded (which it won’t be in your case)
Yes it does.
A drip of contact cleaner and then some back and forth turning (with the amp powered off) should fix that.
I moved the amp and dac to other outlets / strips and the problem got a lot worse. Now the noise is constant popping and buzzing. Loss of left channel is intermittent. This is happening on all headsets and when using the amp connected to the PC by itself.
And to confirm this only happens with the heresy and not the hel right? And this happens with the enog and when running it from the PC? If so then I would go for a return as the amp is clearly messed up
Nah, it has happened with the Hel as well. Both standalone and with the DAC. Though it is much harder to get the Hel to do it. The Heresy seems to be especially bad with it. Been playing around with plug locations. So far the only thing that works on the Hel is setting up the plus directly next to each other on the power strip in order of PC -> Hel -> DAC. Any other order produces popping, buzzing, and loss of left channel (though not nearly as bad as the heresy).
Hmmmmmmmmmmmm. That is extremely strange. You can verify the cable isn’t at fault?
Yea, Tried different cables on all different parts. Still haven’t tried alternate power strip. The biggest problem is that the heresy is currently completely fucked. No matter the configuration the left channel is gone and there is a loud pop whenever I plug the headphones in. The Hel doesn’t seem to be exhibiting any symptoms right now? I’m really confused…
Did a few things. Contacted Schiit, told them it seem like a ground loop and asked them what I could do about it. Also asked for a service request for the Heresy.
Purchased an Archel with XLR cables. Apparently if it’s a ground loop balanced stuff helps. Might as well grab it anyways since I really want to hear it . If it also has a problem, then it isn’t just a heresy / schiit issue.
Purchased a noise isolator and a ground loop isolator. Debating getting a power conditioner / alternate power strip.
All of this is for experimentation . So even though being temporarily frustrated sucks, Imma figure out exactly what the problem is.
Sidenote : I’m fast approaching spending way too much money on audio >.>. Gonna need to cool it down a bit, but I just want a functional setup lol.
It can help yes, you might as well compete the stack then anyways since you already have the enog 2 lol (you go with the 2.5 pro?)
The fact that it carries over to your hel as well is concerning
Yeah very curious to see what those do for you, this entire ordeal is just extremely unusual
Hopefully you can get it figured out and recoup the extra costs by returning the stuff that didn’t make a difference
that may be the fix. it sounds like the grounding in your house just kinda sucks. another thing to try that Ive seen work is using a USB hub I dont know exactly why it works but it sometimes works solving noise issue with DACs
It shouldn’t be that extreme thought is what I’m thinking, but perhaps
but the dac doesnt seem to be the main uissue here anyway
Yea, Archel 2.5 + Enog 2
Yea. I think there’s definitely a house grounding issue. Gonna need more investigation.
If it does nothing it’s likely not a ground loop issue . Should answer that question pretty quick.
Hopefully. Worst case it’s worth it just to have potential fixes lying around for if it happens again. Also having a work desk setup is nice
Yea, still unsure of the DAC not being the issue. We’ll narrow it down with the Archel. But it seems like the DAC works fine with the Hel for now. If there’s a problem with the archel it’s either a system wide issue, or it’s the DAC.
The grounding in the house probably sucks. Old small house.
Hmmmm. USB hub. The DAC is using an optical cable though. The Hel is plugged directly into the PC (needs a usb connection to PC to work, plus a connection to an outlet).
ah ok the if its optical its a non issue its most likely a grounding or amp issue thenor possibly the output portion of the hel through it’s rca cause I assume that is what your using for the heresy
in which case if you haven’t already I would try to run an rca cable from your motherboard to your amp thats a nother good way to see if its an amp issue
Yea. Optical to PC with Enog.
The Hel is connected via USB to PC and by power cable to power strip. The Heresy is just a power cable to a power strip. Hel is connected by an RCA to 3.5mm cable to the Enog. The Heresy is two RCA cables.
No RCA ports on mobo
you can run a 3.5 mm to rca converter fo your mobo’s output
