Upgrading Heaphones for FPS Games

Hello everyone! Recently stumbled across Zeos on youtube and found this forum.
I currently just have a pair of Steel Series Arctis 7 and realized I could probably could have way better audio.

Im looking for a pair of headphones around 100-250 CAD. (Was looking at the SHP9500 but noone sells in Canada for cheap) And was looking to pair it with the Syba Sonic AMP/DAC and a modmic.

My main goal is to be able to hear footsteps easier and tell where its located.

Thanks! :grinning:

How much is an ad700x/ad900x or dt990 250 ohm over there?

If its like 250CAD thatā€™s fine too btw.
The Ad700x I can probably get for around 200-220CAD. ( No amazon prime though so)
The Ad900X i cant seem to find a seller in Canada.
And the DT990 250OHM is around 240CAD (Amazon prime)

I think the 900x is for sale at Moog Audio up here.

EDIT: ā€œSpecial Orderā€ which is current times speak for no

Ah I would suggest going for the 990 250 ohm then. So personally I would say to skip the sybasonic for now, and instead just use your motherboard audio for the time being until you can get a more suitable setup, it should be just fine

Ah alright thanks for the advice! What would be a more suitable setup in your opinion? Iā€™m really new to DACā€™s so forgive my ignorance. Just saw the syba sonic as a good gaming dac in some videos.

So the main reason I would tell you to hold off on the syba sonic is that imo it has performance thatā€™s about equal or slightly better than a motherboard so imo itā€™s harder to actually justify that cost. I think grabbing an amp like a monolith liquid spark or schiit magni 3+ would be a better choice, and a dac like a topping d10 or smsl m100 would be a worthwhile upgrade. You could grab an amp and use your motherboard audio as the dac which would be pretty nice if your current budget didnā€™t allow for the cost of a dac

Ah alright that makes sense! Guess I will grab the DT990 for now and look into an amp as well. Thanks for the help!
