My M100s are starting to fall apart, and I was wondering if there are any headphones out there right now similar enough to be direct upgrades? I love the portability and the sound signature of them, but I’m not too keen on the band flaking, the awful comfort, and the plastic by where the headband joins the cups cracking. I use them for commute and drive them with a phone, and listen to a lot of typical “fun” modern music on them. Budget is $500 USD shipped.
Hmmmm, you have lot’s of options in that range. What type of sound signature are you looking for (would you want it close to the vmoda or something a bit different)? And do they need to be foldable?
Foldable would be a plus for commuting, and I’m looking for something that has detailed bass without losing too much in the mids (close to the vmoda).
I don’t think you would really have to spend that much tbh, something like the akg k371 would work well for you. Very solid build, pretty great comfort, good portability, and a very warmer balanced sound with plenty of detail. If you wanted something a bit higher end the dt177x go would be pretty nice as well. It’s not as portable, but I think is very comfy and also has very good soundstage and imaging with a balanced signature that’s pretty detailed.
