I was thinking abou buying a closed back for listening while in bed, and i got to this.
what would be better? buying a Verité Closed or the Atticus AND the Auteur.
Do you think the Verité C can suffice the need for both the Atticus and Auteur?
I think the Atticus may be a smoother, and more relaxing sound, as well as the Auteur. I dont know if the Verité C is going to be too aggressive for listening before sleep. I know the ZMF Headphones tend to be smoother and darker sounding, but i’ve never heard any of them, so thats why i’m asking if that would be smooth enough, since i hear that the VC is aggressive and very detailed.
Also, since the Verité has a Beryllium driver instead of the Biocellulose driver the Auteurs have, i wonder if the VC will still have that amazing natural timbre of the ZMF Dynamics.

The Verite is a Berrylium coated Biocellulose driver, not a Berrylium driver.
I have Verite Closed, Eikons and Aeolus, if I were doing it again I wouldn’t buy the Aeolus, I think it’s overrated, I’d stick to the Biocellulose ZMF’s. Doing it again for similar money, given I need 2 pairs, at least on of which must be closed I’d just buy one of each Verite Closed and Open.
The Eikon and Verite are similar in overall tonality, but the Verite is the obviously better headphone to me.
Having said that YMMV, lots of people seem to love the Aeolus, and the Eikon is a good headphone.
Thanks for the answer. Would you say that the Verité Closed I good for relaxing? The timbre is natural? And does it have a wide Soundstage?
Sorry if I’m bothering you. I just really wanted an answer to these 3 questions.
Thank you very much in advance. Haha
The Verite C sounds surprisingly open for a closed back, the stage is wide and tall, and it separates well. If I didn’t know it was closed, I wouldn’t have guessed it, my understanding is the open is slightly wider, but I know M0N felt the open didn’t really provide an advantage over the closed.
It has good extension at both ends, vocal timbre is also a strength, it also somewhat surprisingly doesn’t make bad recordings intolerable.
I use the Auteur pads rather than the Universe, but there isn’t a lot in it, the Universe are cleaner tonally to me at the cost of some space in the stage.
Overall it’s pretty neutral tonally with either set of pads.
I run mine off a lot of valves (A Lampizator DAC and a ZMF pendant amp), so overall my system skews “warm” in the valve sense of more body rather than the FR sense, and I find that relaxing to listen to. But they are nice off SS as well, I just rarely use SS these days.
Thanks again for this. You helped me a lot, I think I’m going for the Verité Closed as my only ZMF headphone then. And maybe buy the open in the future.
I’m planning on buying a Woo WA8 to drive it, since I live on Brazil and I need to bring all the stuff I buy in my travels here. So… A big tube amp wouldn’t be possible, and I heard the WA8 is very good while keeping the “portable” size. Haha
