Huh thatās not up to date with current products lol (since they discontinued and added some new ones)
Did they discontinue the V281? Thatād suck for me cause I was hoping to make that my endgame one day
Yes, itās going to be replaced by the v381 or whatnot but thatās not out yet. From what I hear the newer violectrics might actually be loosing their trademark signatures as they are more leaning towards niimbus tuning, which is kinda a shame imo, but still good amps. Still have hope for a good separate new amp from them lol
They are very similar though I feel the V200 has better space and scaling of sounds within that space. The bass can get pretty intense on the V200, so pairing it woth an analytical DAC like the Soekris is definitely ideal.
If that is true, it will save me some money cause I wonāt be interested in the new ones, lol
Yes, @fbizzle notes this as well above, I havenāt heard a v590 yet, but from everyone I hear from and trust, itās way closer leaning to a niimbus signature wise than the older violectric, which is both a good and bad thing, but personally I would hope they give us both options for those that still really like the classic vio sound lol. The v590 also apparently reacts similar to the niimbus when it comes to dac pairing, so that would further suggest that its very niimbus leaning (and the soekris donāt play as well with the niimbus imo)
What are the traits of the niimbus tuning?
Pretty brutally neutral, unforgiving, extremely refined though, pretty much deadpan neutral no nonsense sound, if you give it garbage thereās no saving it lol (where at least with stuff like the v281 or whatnot you would get a bit of smoothness in the treble and some extra warmth). So itās very picky about everything
Doesnāt sound like my cup of tea lol
Got my v200 for a very nice price too and potentially at the ideal time to buy if old vioās go up in value. Time will tell I guess.
Yeah if you enjoy what the v200 can offer, the most direct upgrade is the v280 or v281 (I would go for 281 if you can), the niimbus is a step up from that technicality wise (from the v281) but might be a signature change that some may not be ready for or would want. The new vio tries to meet in the middle somewhere, but still ends up more niimbus or lake people signature leaning
Iām sure someone will try them but it wonāt be me lol the v200 signified the end of gear purchases on my desk for the foreseeable future. Headphones is another story though
I am thinking that a used V280/V281 is in my future, at some point. I canāt stop wondering how it would compare to the LP.
So can we mitigate this with warmer dacs like ares and cyan etc to atleast bring it back to the old violectric stuff? Good to know if someday their 200 series stuff disappears from the market. On their euro website it says no longer available so I assume now its all whatās in stock previously from different shops?
Not really imo, you can tone down the niimbus with warmer more colored dacs yes, but itās not going to replicate what the v28x does imo
I think they are only still making the v280 because of popular demand tbh, but everything else is getting cut (although I donāt know if the v200a is actually) in favor of the new 3 series coming up
Sad to hear about the v281 cause the way you guys describe the signature, I think Iād have loved it but Iām years away from affording one atm lol. I intend to get speakers before moving on to anymore headphones and gear.
Itās not like they still wonāt be floating around used, and there are a ton of v280 out there tbh (and who knows they might keep extending that model), so there is still hope lol
True enough but used would be a last resort for me. Cause Iām stuck with anything I buy and shipping and customs takes away any of the advantages of buying used gear for my case. For reference my asgard 3 cost me about 380 usd. Which I consider quite fortunate considering. Sure enough tons of new stuff are being developed just saying that in description it seemed like my perfect fit :slight_smile
I just thought of it today but didnāt you buy a Lake People amp? If so, how would you compare it to the Violectric, just going by memory?
Violectric is wider sounding with stronger bass, and a touch better detail in the mids IMO. With the Soekris dac1321 though, the Violectric has a better and more cohesive sound. I love the treble because it is all there, but it isnāt glaring or forcefully presented. Yet, it doesnāt lack detail either. Maybe a touch of roll off at the very top end of the treble, but that isnt audible treble anyways, more of the air frequencies that are fealt and not heard.
Does anyone knows how the V200A compares to something like a Rebelamp or FA-12S ?
Impactful bass, meaty mids, no vocals shoutiness and easy treble for longer sessions, which one is more likely to fit this ? Seems like most people pair it with R2R stuff but what about something like an RME, anyone tried this combo ?
