šŸ”¶ Vokyl Erupts

Thanks for the reply! I did get my Vokyls and the MX3 does power them (@70-80%) although I feel like they want a little more power.

I like everything about these exept for the mid-bass. I am new to the game and really didn’t know what ā€œmuddyā€ meant, but thanks to these I now know exactly what that means/sounds like. Would this be fixed by swapping the pads like some here have done ($$$)?

The Pad swapped fixed most of the issues with me personally, outside of the janky terrible cable, so I would say yes however the pad replacement is very expensive I would recommend seeing about buying the pads off somebody for cheaper so you can cut some costs. Up to preference on what style pad fabric you would prefer just keeping in mind that each fabric will change the sound to a certain degree and it depends on your sound preferences.

I just received my pair today and I actually ordered Brainwavz XL Round Perforated PU Leather and Hybrid pads. I don’t think I read anyone else trying these for the Erupts. Has anyone else tried the Brainwavz XL Round pads on the Erupts?

I actually chose to do this before Dekoni Fenestrated Sheepskin because I needed to replace the pads on my AT-M50s, and the total for all 3 pads cost me less than $60 shipped, whereas the cost of the Dekoni’s alone would cost me >$70. From the dimensions of the Brainwavz XL Round, it shouldn’t be too much more different than the Dekoni’s except the material. If anything, they’re slightly larger in diameter (5mm) and thicker (2mm), so should help with the soundstage and separation issues over the stock vented pads.

I’m also actually considering poking holes and experimenting on the stock solid pads so that there are more holes than the stock vented pads. Worst case, nothing will be lost seeing that I’ll never use the stock solid pads anyway. Lol!

I used the non perforated leather pads and the suede pads from the XL lineup. Got shit results with both. I think these definitely need pads that breathe to be even half decent.

Did the Brainwavz XL pads fit well on the cups?

The erupts definitely need pads that breathe otherwise they tend to get way too boomy. With the stock solid pads, I could physically hear the driver popping because of the vacuum being created when I wore them. I’m hoping the Brainwavz XL Perforated and Hybrid breathe plenty. If not, I might manually make the holes larger.

They fit on the cups fine, but since they need more space to fit on your head I was pushing the limit of the headstrap. If you have a big head it could be problematic.

I’m very glad to hear they fit just fine. I do have a large head but I think it should be fine after having stretched it out… I hope. Thanks for the info

I put my order in with Brainwavz last Friday but still no shipping  Hopefully they ship soon and I get them this week.

How exactly did you bend them to increase the clamp? I’d like to do the same without breaking them.

@ZeosPantera Did you have a chance to get a new Erupt to compare with your initial version?

do we know if they are still made? website states preorder due to ship in 2020 and we are 3 months in 2021, no updates.

I think they finished shipping the indiegogo backers and stoped making it. You can go read the last update on the indiegogo campaign, but that’s what I understood.

Thanks! Its a shame wanted to try them.

Get a second hand one.

The Dekoni pads are definitely better than the stock vented pads, and better than the ZMF Ori perforated lambskin. It’s a shame they seem to be too large for the headphones though, and slide around a lot. I’m done trying to polish this turd of a headphone. Good cups, good drivers, everything else sucked.

I found this thread. I think I’ll try to find them again (somewhere in storage) and attempt to get some replacement pads.
Considering the cups and drivers are pretty good quality (I think), is there any reason to think something may be achieved by fiddling with the baffle/damping in the cups?

After a year of use and reading others opinions these seem to be extremely over priced $150 headphines. Looking into picking up a new set of cans to replace these, any suggestions? Im looking at the Sundaras and AKG K712.

HD660, of course. It, Erupt and Mobius are my 3 favs at their prices and below still. But Sundara is fine, if you like thin/light sound. AKG’s sound too distant, and circular cups/pads suck for comfort.

You’re not wrong. The k712 I enjoyed back in the day. I don’t think they quite hold up today especially for the price in the USA. In fact in the US I’d say they are overpriced as well. I’d go Sundara all the way.

Sennheiser isn’t exactly known for their soundstage. Do you have experience gaming in them?

Of course. That’s how I know how they sound. HD660 is NOT like HD600(terrible) or HD650, soundstage/space-wise, which is a major part of why they’re way better than 600/650 for FPS. Also better clarity/detail presence.

Sennheiser not known for the soundstage? Heard of a little guy named HD800…? Or HD700, which I believe HD660 uses the drivers of.
