We all could learn something from these true audiophiles

I just learned that I’m not nearly as obsessed with audio as I thought.

He’s not generating his own power, still suckling at the public power teat?!
Where is the commitment? You pedal that generator bike!!

For real, tho. Japan is kind nuts when it comes to hobbies, especially retirees. They get so laser-focused on a single hobby, that they craft their lifestyles around it. (of course not everyone, but far beyond the western multi-hobby focus)

And it’s not too bad finding this bleed-over in thrift shops. :stuck_out_tongue: Even in the small town I lived in, I’d find some premium juicy equipment, maybe just a scratch on it. Fuck I wanted that stuff so badly. :sob:

I just have this story in mind, but can’t remember who the individual is, nor where I read it from.

Either way, it was this crazy studio guy who build a studio worth several millions of dollars. He had his own power and everything, but the craziest detail I remember is putting 3 tons of concrete (or something) for the loudspeakers.

There are definitely extremists in this hobby. Me, I like them. I love seeing things pushed to extremes.

you just reminded me of a guy who poured an isolated slab in his basement to house his electron microscope on. the images he’s shared from his obsession are wunderbar, though!

Yup, people do some extreme stuff.

If i am not mistaken, this guy was from Japan. If he wasn’t from Japan, he was from somewhere in the US.

Also I think that the whole thing was underground… imagine just pulling up with the cement truck to set 3 tonnes of concrete to secure some loudspeakers in a studio. That must’ve been nuts. But hey, the guy had his own power line or whatever. $$$$$$
