What did you buy today? (Part 1)

It is a Fostex cable for my purple hearts.

Well the cable kinda sucks in general, and it’s been a bit wonky on both ends with not making any sound until I turn it and stuff. And the DAC, well I kinda hear a difference, and I kinda prefer it over my E10K, but I don’t prefer it €149 you know? I only use IEMs (FA1 and T2) and a Koss Porta Pro and soon a KSC75, so I don’t know if it’s my gear, or my source (Spotify) or just my ears, but I don’t notice that much of a difference. I’d love to find out which of the three is the problem so I can either do something about it or know that I shouldn’t bother myself… However this was a pretty expensive upgrage, like I said €149 for the DAC and then another €38 for the wonky cable, that’s €187 / $205. Also it hisses on my FA1s and I am not going to buy an IEMatch and a 4.4mm to 3.5mm adapter as well, I’ll be down $250 if I do.

Have we seen this problem on here before regarding the Zen Dac on some iem’s?..Strange as i’ve never had a problem with my Nano and Micro

well, the Zen is not built to be portable, so likely wasn’t designed with IEM’s in mind.

It is a tad strange imho as iFi are pretty switched on when it comes to their user market…maybe they should’ve had both gain switches and a iem matches?

It was designed for lower power items like iems from my experience

are you sure, M0N? it’s a stationary amp that has good balanced output but sub-par se output…that would say to me it’s meant to drive a headphone, not an IEM. I know IEM’s at the desk are a thing, but more an exception to the rule really.

I mean just saying I have had good experience with it with iems. Not saying it’s made for iems, just made for more lower power stuff. It’s like the corda jazz ff is a good desktop amp for iems imo, but it wasn’t made for iems

Well to be fair they also hiss on my E10K, but I have an Earbuddy which takes care of any annoying hiss. However I’m not going to fork over another $60 for an IEMatch.
I also notice the hiss on my T2’s btw, just far less than on my FA1s.
It’s really a shame that I don’t notice it that much, because I like everything else about it.

That would’ve been awesome.

A simple and cheap answer you’d think…a bit of an epic iem fail iFi???

Did you try using the IEMatch button on the amp itself? That should be OFF for sensitive IEMs.

Yeah it is off, if I turn it on with my FA1s I will not have any eardrums anymore :stuck_out_tongue:

turn the audio down…obviously. LoL!

So if I listen with the 6.35 to 3.5mm and then an EarBuddy it’s perfectly enjoyable, no hiss at all. Even with the EarBuddy I need to turn off the IEMatch. However without the EarBuddy it will hiss, and also on the balanced output. The annoying thing is that I can’t use the EarBuddy on the balanced output.

well, you said those IEM’s hiss on other equipment as well…so it’s something with the IEM’s, not the equipment itself.

Oh no don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate on iFi for it. Just that I guess that it’s not something for me. On the one hand it saves me a bunch of money, on the other hand I had hoped it would be a significant upgrade for me, now I have to start over again in my search for a nice upgrade…

Wow. grats dude their beautiful

wondering rn if i should go with a magni heresy and enjoy the simplificity or if a tube amp might make 58X’s sound even better (or maybe too warm)

The tower grows! My RNHP arrived today. It sounds beautiful!
