That is one expensive tin box
Just purchased an Audeze LCD-2 Pre Fazor for $599. The deal was too good to pass up.
Didnāt you just trade out a 2 Classic a while ago? What are the differences between 2 Classic and 2 Pre-Fazor?
Pretty significant difference. Audeze changed drivers around 2016 too, which was a silent revision. The LCD-2 pre fazor has the better bass extension and doesnāt have wonky treble like the fazored versions.
The LCD-2C actually doesnt sound like the pre fazor LCD-2 at all, IMO. The LCD-2C has a peak from 1 to 2 KHz and a 10 KHz peak that separates it from the LCD-2 pre fazor.
Part of the issue with Audeze is the many driver revisions and manufacturer variance. So itās always a gambleā¦but $599 was too good to pass up.
I just sold my LCD-X also, so Iām leaning towards buying a ZMF Aeolus (or a used Auteur). That would conclude my headphone upgrades for this year and allow me to focus my time saving up for the Violectric V281.
Got my DT 770ās back from a guy on Etsy/Reddit who does a cable mod to replace that terrible non-detachable cable it comes with. Looks and sounds great! Super pleased.
Thanks for the rundown on Audeze models. I canāt keep upātheyāre so scattered with their silent revisions and 7 different āflagshipsā and whatnot.
Anyway, love me some ZMFs, and I had to jump on Dropās V280 deal. I love that I can reconfigure the RCAs as outputs, so I should be able to run balanced in to the 280 and chain that feed to my Pendant when it shows up, (thus eliminating the ānastyā THX from my reference chain, lol). Meanwhile the Pendant has a separate RCA in that I could feed with a different DAC (Soekris, maybe?) to turn that into a euphonic tubey playground.
So thatās kind of my vision for my Violectric at this point. Assuming I can find room for all that gear on my desk, lol.
If you need a Dac, then the Terminator might be the one for you:
Did you return it or was it a keeper? And what did you think?
(I just ordered one)
I ended up cancelling my order. The wait back then was 8+ weeks. Things look good now though!!
Niceee, curious on what you think
Dang dude. Hope this is the right audeze for you. You must be in the same boat as me where auditioning isnāt an option.
@TwoPaperCaper those look sweet. Congrats
Yeah, currently it is at 3-4 weeks. If it works as well as M0N said it will with my current lineup, it is worth the wait.
Was just curious to hear some experience.
New headband?
so it does have a new headband, but after wearing it for a bit it seems like it may be a little worn and doesnāt quite suspend the way itās intended anymore. Iāll probably replace it in the near future and itās certainly not unusable. The earpads are also a fair bit worn in and flattened out a bit. Neither of these things would probably be as apparent if I did not have and regularly use a newer LCD-2 and for the price i got it for canāt complain tbh. Overall condition seems great on the driver, cups, and connectors and really enjoying the sound so far
My used Lcd2C also had the leather part stretched and my head would touch the metal part. I just did two new holes in one side and reinstall it and know is more comfortable (it no longer touches).
Replaced mine with handmade one from https://www.instagram.com/understatedmontreal/?hl=en should arrive next week. He did one up for my t60ās too.
I like the DT770s, just make sure you EQ out the treble peaks. Theyāll still sound great, and youāll avoid the tinnitus! The DT770s and DT990s kept me content for many years, but they definitely took some of my high-frequency hearing away.
Speaking of pain (both high-frequency hearing and wallet), I ordered a pair of 2020 Campfire Andromedas. First jump (of hopefully very few) into the four-figure range for hi-fi, although I got a bit of a deal.
Iāve actually heard the LCD-2 pre fazor in the past. Barring anything unforeseen, I know I will enjoy them.
I donāt have the ability to audition before buying. I used to rent headphones off of lumoid to audition, but they no longer do audio rentals.
I think Iāve had tinnitus for years, but only in the last 12 months has it really made me think, wtf is this high pitched reeeeeeeeeeeeee - oh. Tinnitus.
Been wearing headphones on and off since, forever.
