Exactly. So many more people have the bifrost. But I don’t like schiit, and I like the external design, design mentality, and intended sound of the ares more.
Same here Hahah
The Loki has been a really great investment for me. I don’t generally care for EQ’ing but it’s very nice to be able to slightly turn down/up certain frequencies depending on what headphones I’m using. I’m pretty sensitive to treble so I always turn it down some and boost up the bass a little bit, it’s great.
Yes! That’s exactly what I want to be able to do too. Slightly bump the bass on some tracks, slightly drop the treble on others. Glad to hear it’s been working out for you. I’m so looking forward to it!
I just picked up a 6SN7 to 12AU7 adapter so that I can use my NOS 6SN7 tubes on my bottlehead crack, once the parts arrive and I build it.
Ive been meaning to watch Come and See for awhile now… I’ll have to get up the nerve to watch it soon. Nice haul
The dt990 is really good. i love it. they have some similarities to each other. but it doesnt have the presentation of the Helios. it doesnt have that big open sound but with closer soundstage at the same time. so the Helios sounds more lively. the 990 has more soundstage. but the regular headphone presentation.
I think the treble is done better on the Helios. but its very nice on the 990. the Helios has slightly more bass. and better head clamp and seal. the 990 had a odd fit for me. it almost feels like the headphone and pads are a little stiff. i think the lack of clamp effects the bass and treble and gives it a lighter sound. when i used a stretchy headband around the cups the 990 sounded better. the high’s came down and it got more bass and fuller sound.
The timber/tone of the 990 is more like a usual plastic headphone than the steel and wood effected Helios. so some may prefer that more.
the dt990 has a 5 - 35.000 Hz frequency range, the Helios 10Hz to 40kHz lol. but i believe the higher frequencies is where you really hear the effect of the hi resolution music. so that extra 5 may be better in the highs. Detail seems the same but its different on the helios.
Keep in mind we’re comparing a old headphone to a brand new one. im not sure how far audio tech has come but you can hear the Helios seems so utilize newer tech. A better comparison might be Beyerdynamic’s new Tygr headphone. which i hear has a speaker like presentation. Ive ordered it and will compare if it ever gets here lol.
Nice, I just watched this film this past weekend. Not really into horror, but it was different and I think I liked it. The tone of the movie is really something else.
Yeah the director’s cut is longer, and more morally complicated and bizarre, I’ve seen the theatrical cut like a few times but the Director’s cut only once because it was previously only available as an Apple Movies download. So when this popped up in actual hard media form I was like, dont care got to have it
Thanks! Come and See is one of the darkest and most difficult to watch ww2 movies I’ve ever seen. It definitely takes some prep to get up the will to watch it
Neat!
I got an app for this on my phone lol – Spectrum Analyzer
Nice Thanks for the link. I might try this one as well.
The other one I’m gonna hook up between the Loki and the Magni, it should be fun to be able to visualize the sound changes made by twisting the Loki knobs.
Before I began watching Zeos videos - which eventually led me to this forum, I hadn’t considered pad changes on over-ear headphones. This week I decided to do something about my first ever “this is not total crap” pair of headphones, the Denon AH-D1000, which is over ten years old! I haven’t been using these much anymore, mostly because they leak sound like crazy. But also because the poor old pads had completely peeled off:
Today I replaced them with a pair of new Brainwavz Ovals!
Overall, I’m pretty happy with the result. They are now usable again.
Treble got a little carried away and I had to EQ it down.
I think I’m gonna try out some materials in front of the driver to see if I can make it calm the frack down.
I also bought a perforated and a hybrid pair directly from Brainwavz (they have a nice sale going), so it’ll be interesting to see how they change the sound.
In the end, the headphones don’t have enough clamping force, and sound still leaks like crazy, but it’s nice to have these headphones be useful again.
I think I may keep modding them. Maybe I can convert the cables to removable ones next?
Wow, didnt know those existed. so the fostex/denon/emu link continues. they look like Cal’s and the emu purple hearts
Czech Republic? Nice.
I am in Slovakia but would guess we have one distributor for both countries
