Removing the foam from the backs of the HD58X doesn’t actually do anything. It doesn’t really matter if you just like the looks better without the foam.

It could. But personally I never got that when I tried it.

I feel like it just makes them a bit more open, and that’s about it. Like you can feel more moving air on your ear if next to a fan lol, it might improve something more but it’s small

Pretty much every reviewer on Earth compared them with the 6XX, noting how close they sound when you take the foam out (but also how close they sound with the foam in).

I think that has a lot to do with soundstage widening a touch without the foams. Can’t really measure something like that, but it is very audible. :slightly_smiling_face:

I received my XLR interconnects today. The next step towards a balanced system. Next up- balanced preamp!

Those Audioquest evergreen phonos are sweet too :+1:

They are really nice, short and supple. Not crazy expensive either! That is also a Forest coaxial cable.

Those are really the only affordable audioquest cables. I have a pair of evergreen rca cables myself.

I do actually own a pair of Red Rivers that I use between my phono stage and preamp. It is a kind of long run and I was considering their additional shielding against EMI since they passed through the wall along with some power cords. I got them nicely discounted since I have bought a lot from the store.
