What do I pair with my GL2000? (RME, A90)

Hello there!
I need help in choosing the right equipment to pair with what I already purchased.
I got the GL2000 (awaiting delivery), HD58X and basically every Beyerdynamic under 500 bucks.
I also would like to get the RME ADI-2-DAC to do the DAC job for my whole setup.
Now my main questions:
A) do I need an AMP like the A90? Ive seen everyone pairing the RME with an AMP which confuses me as it already spits out quite some power afaik. But I’m new to all of this, so please enlighten me.
B) would the DV 336SE pair well with this system? I know that planar and tube AMPs dont really work together, thats why I bought the 58X jubilee, in case I ever decide to buy a tube.
C) how tf do I get the 4.4 pentaconn of the GL2000 to work with the RME? The RME only has a 6.35mm and 3.5mm audio jack, aswell as balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA. I have found 0 adapters on german ebay and amazon (yes I am german, hence the RME) and am not sure whether I’d need the A90 with its 4.4 jack as a mandatory bridge.
Thanks a lot for your help and excuse my nooby questions

Hello,
I am also from Germany.
If you want to use the Gl 2000 on a 6.3 mm plug, you need a suitable cable.
You need a cable with a 3.5 mm jack at each end and a 6.3 mm jack at the other end.

I can recommend you to look at Audioverse.de, which is in Germany, or Stritt-audio.de.

Then you can use the headphones with the cable on any headphone amplifier with 6.3 mm jack, or with an adapter would also be a possibility.

The theory of Planar plus tube amplifier is certainly a matter of taste.
If you have a tube amplifier that has enough power, it can be pleasant.

The pairing of Rme Adi 2 and Topping A90.
The Rme is a dac amp, the A90 a pure headphone amp.
Both are relatively neutral in sound from the tuning of the Rme tends to be almost analyst.
Depending on the application and taste, this can be too much of a good thing, especially if the headphones themselves are also kept neutral.

As a pure example, I have the Singxer Sda 2C with an Audeze Lcd 2C and they play fantastically.
With the Rme I once had as a test, that would be too much of a good thing.

If you still want a bit of musicality and “warmth” and less analaytic, then a Questyle cma400i or Singxer Sda 2C would be a much better choice.
Both are dac/amps.
Unfortunately they can’t be connected via Pentacon but via 4 pin Xlr cable, so the old design.

In the end, it’s all a matter of taste - one likes it analytical, the other neutral, the other warmer.
So if you have any preferences, just let me know.

You can get the Singxer Sda2c from Magnahifi.com in Europe and the Questyle in Germany.

They are by far the best amplifiers for the price level and performance.
You can also drive your Gl2000 with it without any problems.

Thanks for your feedback and the 2 custom cable makers - I didnt know of those but they seem to offer a lot of great solutions.
As I would like to run the GL2000 balanced, the 6.3mm custom cable wouldnt do the job I feel. I may end up using 2 XRL->3.5mm cables, to run both channels separately. That would work fine - right?
Well, if the RME only had a 4.4 output…

My though behind the RME was: if I feel its too clean, I use the EQ it has in order to tweak the sound to my liking. Making it warmer should be fairly easy with this. Also I think my 58X could use some EQ to reduce the hissing which is a bit to much for my taste. This would work fine with the RME wouldnt it?

Soekris could be another EU option :+1:

I think this page is outdated ?

To find their new stuff i would go here :

Mail them I think they’re still operating :+1:

So with an Eq I think you can adjust the sound warmer.
The equalizer is only there to boost certain areas that you miss.
So if you have too much treble you can tame it, if you have too little bass you can boost it.

But you can’t work on the basic tonality with the eq.
You can’t make the sound more analytical or colder or warmer.
That comes much more from the implementation that the manufacturer has provided and the construction of the circuit.

As a rough guide, you can say that the Esabre chip is generally cold and analytical.
The Akm chip is warmer and more musical.
The Burr Brown is more of a sound colourer.
Cirus logic, also known as Cs, is the most musical.
It gets the least attention for whatever reason.

Because of Akm with warmer and musical regarding the Rme Adi 2 Fs, yes, it is installed there, but Rme has done something with it.
They pushed it so far that you hardly notice it.
When I had them every headphone I had sounded pretty much the same.
Which bothered me quite a bit, and its menu navigation also takes a lot of getting used to.

The Sokris could also be an option, but I don’t know which one and what it costs.
The Matrix Audio ipro Mini 3 would also be interesting.
I think it should support Pentacron.

Well it seems the RME is no viable option to pair with the GL2000s without any additional device. I will look for another DAC/DAC-AMP unit like the Dx7

This one will be looked into - looks promising!

Yes, he is.
I have the Ipro mini 2 at home and the headphone output was more for Iems.
I currently have it connected to the hi-fi system and it’s a blast, and gives me real pleasure every time.
They’ve done a better job with the headphone output on the 3-series, so you can definitely use higher-impedance headphones that need more power than just Iems.

Apart from that, it has been optimised and improved again.
You can also find it at Magnahifi.com

At first I thought the 2s I have were a bad buy, but they’re not, and I’m really looking forward to listening to them on a good tube amp.

Well what can I say: it sounds amazing, but I didnt expect anything less. Sounds quality, not flat. My previous model was pretty good too but lacking the pentaconn, so this is not too much different but sounds a little more detailed/clean/percise with a hint of flavor. Can recommend! Just note that speaker and headphone output at the same time is not possible due to its internal relais

Hello,
I’m glad to hear that you like it too.
It seems to be worth it after all if you were in possession of the 2.
I read that they finally made it Roon Ready after half a year’s delay.
I’ll have to listen to it when I get the chance.

Have fun with it,.
