It come with 2 types of pads. And yeah they are quite worn off. Also I attached a better picture of connectors if there is something wrong there. I’m probably going to sell them because I really don’t like the that much.
But yeah don’t you think it is possible that something have been changed inside of the driver. Because that price was really low and I feel like a fool from buying it this unbelievably cheap. And if I’m going to sell them I really don’t want to sell to anyone else and have problems if they are fake
Just to check does one pad type have 4 holes on the back, and the other many holes on the back?
I mean it really does look like a legit pair, that doesn’t mean that something couldn’t be wrong with them, but it does look like a real pair, but I also don’t open beyers or keep up with what counterfeits look like very often so can’t say for sure
There’s a higher chance that the pair you got had something wrong with them but are real than them being a fake, but if you aren’t finding them worthwhile and feel like they aren’t preforming for what they should, it would be easier to just sell them off
Do you perhaps know anyone who could tell the difference if I open the driver even more ( if that’s possible and not to hard) to check if there is something wrong.
Out of curiosity, what’s your experience with headphones? Like what headphones have you had I mean. Just to get an idea of what sound signature you’re used to.
I only have tried blon 03 and some logitech headset ( I think costed around 50eur and I don’t remember the full model name ) . I honestly like the sound of blons quite a lot but their fit is just so bad and also they are quite uncomfortable as well. And iems is probably not a good choice for me because I have really narrow ear canalls (that is probably why I have so much problems with the fit with blons). In terms of headphones my dream headphone was always thx-00 but sadly they don’t make them anymore and it’s also really hard to find them used and if you find anything they usually cost almost the same like a new one which is absolutely insane
While it is very possible that you have a faulty headphone, do you think that it might be that you aren’t used to an open back design?
I only ask cause I have some friends with Beats Headphones that have claimed that they’re superior to my own Beyerdynamic DT1990 Pros, because they have never tried an open back. There are going to be some changes from those who come from closed-back cans. Mainly, the isolating factor. Many people feel that closed backs are more musical-sounding than open backs for two main reasons. One is the isolative effect of cutting out background/ambient noise. Two is the resonances caused by a closed off driver when sound waves bounce off of material. You can achieve this similarly by placing a subwoofer in a corner versus the middle of the room. Bass/lower frequencies tend to reflect a lot more which is why many closed backs have a bassier, boomier sound to them.
I would suggest maybe reaching out to beyers technical support on the matter and explain… show them the pictures they should definitely be able to tell you if they see something wrong. There may be someone here who would be willing to open their’s up though. I’d search online for people who have taken the 1990s apart and compare. To my knowledge 1990s haven’t had any revisions or changes so they should match up but others are welcome to correct me if I’m wrong.
As for detail, I may cut against the grain here. But I find that most drivers, even cheap ones can reproduce the majority of those “details”. The rest of it relies on tuning the frequencies so that details are more apparent than others. By the nature of soundwaves, lower frequencies can overpower the higher frequencies or at least muddy them to a point that they’re less audible. Achieving this balance is subject to much debate hence why there are so many targets (Harman, DF, etc.). There are other things though that superior drivers can do in terms of speed/decay and such.
Going into IEMs, you’re against facing a more closed off system versus open-back cans. Another thing is that the driver (though small) is nestled right against your ear canal. There can quite a bit of difference there with someone talking an inch or two from your ear versus directly into your ear canal. IEMs as a result sometimes do better than expected detail at much lower price points because their drivers are so close to your ears. You can more easily hear frequencies that might be masked. Bigger drivers also tend to have better bass reproduction and extension so there are less low frequencies that muck up the detail (typically higher frequencies).
Now to address how you feel more pressure or more slam coming from your IEMs versus your drivers. This is likely against due to the closed nature of the IEMs and the fact that’s right up in your ear canal. Think of someone going “PUH” right into your ear versus doing the same an inch or two away.
I would say this. Try to give it some time. Your brain will adjust and get used to the sound. Then, when you have acclimated somewhat. Give them some comparison to your headset or IEMs. If at the end of it you still don’t like the sound, you learned a bit more of your tastes and know what to look for moving forward. And you can sell those DT1990s for a decent price to get a money head start on your next purchase.
Thank you. I really think that these headphones are not really for me, but I’d still contact beyer to check on the headphones because I don’t want to be evil and sell them to someone if the headphones actually got problems
Yeah, but like I said. I would give them some time at least. I usually wait at least a week before I decide I will send something back. I usually go almost the entire month. If you’re used to a particular sound, it might jar you a bit until your brain adjusts.
Some things that might help you see the positives of the DT 1990 Pro, I would say are soundstage/imaging tests and extension tests.
Try some direct comparisons. The advantages of an open back is less resonance (which can sound less musical) for more accurate and natural sound. Soundstage and imagiing is typically a lot better as well. And I find better tonal balance (less boomy low-end) are part of what makes open-backs great. For those that come from speakers, the open-back sounds more natural to the ears versus closed back. But for those that come from just earbuds/IEMs, and closed back headphones, I can see how open-backs may sound not as lively or fun. We all have our own tastes.
