Yeah I bought the 1060s and 1060cs off of zeos hype, Pad rolled them, fuzzored them, 3d printed fazors for the drivers and open back grills for the 1060c and really never was able to make them perform like a high end can. I fixed the issues they had, but never really was able put them up near an LCD2 and the other planars on the higher end of the spectrum.
I also had both the 1060 and c variants. Still have my cs. The lcd vegan pads helped a lot. The fasors on the 1060s helped but the treble wasnāt in my good books. For the cost of the cans I thought they performed very well.
After the 1060s I decided I wasnāt going to buy any headphones where the first thing you needed to do was take them apart to āfixā them. No Thieaudio Phantoms for me, thanks. I donāt mind a pad swap to improve comfort or change the sound quality, and Iāll buy new cables for headphones I already like, but thatās about it for me these days.
I feel like Iām like that now, as I donāt really want to mod stuff to make it sound how it should tbh. Iām not saying Iām against modding or anything but I personally donāt like to do it and risk breaking something.
I actually just fazored my thieaudio phantoms and it improved them lol. I feel like the mods involved w/ the phantoms are low risk though. Even the 1060cs/1060s were low risk apart from the first person who found which screws tensioned the ortho driver and which screws were useless.
but yeah beyond the 350/400$ price points I am not necessarily a fan of buying products that need TLC/modding.
I guess it depends on the headphone for me. If I ever find a pair of HD800s for like $500, I would happily pick them up knowing Iād likely add the damper later on to reduce the treble peak. But those headphones came out 10 years ago, so itās different to me for some reason. With all the improvements theyāve made since then, I donāt feel like I should have to do that with a headphone that comes out today with so much solid competition out there
Iāve always been an avid tinkerer and am a mechanic/fabricator by trade so I kind of enjoy the challengeā¦ That being said I do also like to buy nice things that just work. As I get older my patience for shenanigans is decreasing.
what is fuzzored?
20 character
Creating a fazor with some adhesive felt or other material
I think what ModHouse does with the Argons is great. Completely retuned with substantially more comfort, and way beyond anything Iād be able to do on my own. But I also donāt agree that heās turning $160 headphones into $1k headphones like Iāve seen a lot of people say. Iām not crazy about using EQ, so if I can avoid it by changing the pads Iām all for it, but as my collection grows thatās about the extent Iām willing to go to these days.
hah, im so tempted on the 1570, but going to practice exercising some will-power on this one for now. If it ends up getting crazy endorsements, I will definitely bite.
670 gramsā¦ hope you all are ready to bulk up those trapsā¦
Iām just worried that the focal style headband wonāt distribute the weight well.
That was my first thought as well. Suspension bands have spoiled me
Itās a nice headband though. The Elex is 450g according to Drop listing and it works plenty well on the Elex. Will have to try it and see.
PLEASE post your thoughts asap. They had a lot of growing pains with the 1060ās. I wonder if they can come out swinging this time? People seem to be pretty happy with the M570ās so far.
Thatās true, but we also donāt know if itās to the same quality and comfort of a real focal headband
Well they kinda bought the headphones from another company, so thatās perhaps why lol
Hell, if all it accomplishes is being a great bassy planar thatās $200 less than the LCD2C that may be enough. I think the hopes that it will be an LCD4 killer are optimistic, but as long as the tuning isnāt completely broken Iām hopeful. (Iād argue that Audezeās tuning is a little broken, but keeping those thoughts to myself)
Iām personally hoping for something that has similar bass extension to the Audeze with slightly better and more open treble. Maybe a slight v or w shape, that is well extended into the low-end.
