What speakers to get around $700 - $1000 nzd

Hi all, i am looking at getting some new speakers, i am currently looking at the edifier s3000pros but i want to know what else is out there that are around the same price and quality.
Thanks for any help

can we get a little more info from you please? primary purpose? ie gaming movies music all of the above. if music, any genre preferences? how big of a space do you have for them and how big of a room? will they be up against a wall or getting breathing room?

there are lots of choices in that range depending on your needs :grinning:

edit: thought of another, powered or not powered? deal breaker one way or the other? and if you need powered, what connections do you use/have/need

Hi yea sorry, im sort of new to the whole audio scene. their primary purpose is gonna be for all of the above, they will be on my desk with a little bit of room behind them my room is around 2.7x3.0m ish, what is the difference between powered and unpowerd . if it helps i am currently using the edifier r1280db’s and an old sub that i found in our basement.
Thanks

No worries bud. Powered have the amp built in, passive require an external amp.

Also, what brands are available? From what I gather, not a lot of brands available down that way.

i would prefer powered. i can get alot of things from amazon so that not really an issue, i can get the edifiers in nz and there is this site if you wanted to have a look https://www.rubbermonkey.co.nz/Music-Audio/Speakers thats basically what else i can get in nz, but like i said i can order from amazon once this whole corona things over

so these would be my top choices in that price range. both have sub out with low end filters at 80hz. the edifiers300pro and swan m300 sound really close, but lack low end filters. and by low end filters, i mean the edies and swans will play full range even with a sub hooked up. The vanatoo’s and kanto’s will filter out below 80hz on the monitors, making them play louder and easier with a sub hooked up.

all 4 options are pretty great though, but i would personally lean towards the 2 linked. the kanto’s are a little more feature rich, but you need a pair of banana connectors to connect the pair together. the vantoo’s use a 4pin like the edies, and use a dsp xover(all digital). the kantos xover is passive and built into the speaker, the bass and treble controls are for the source and not the speakers. Both are good, just a little bit different with the dsp winning the slight edge if you are a massive tweeker.

I hope some of this helps you. I am no expert btw, and i have not heard any of the 4 mentioned speakers. giving ya some more options to work with.

edit: meant to mention the tuks are not currently on amazon, but i think they ship about anywhere from their website. @kantoliving you guys ship to new zealand?

Thanks for the options, are there any other speakers like the vanatoos cause im leaning toward those but i want to know if there is any others like it. thanks

not really that have that “total” of a package built in. for a wee bit more you get more options. the vanatoo’s are suppose to be really nice and i love the look. if they didnt come out till after i built my desktop setup, i would have gone for them.

BUT thats a lot of money, so to be honest i would rather get a second opinion as i really dont like to suggest stuff solo as my actual experience with various speakers is limited. but i love this hobby and do a lot of research for what its worth. thats also why i like to give as many options as possible and a second someone chiming in can think or know about products that i do not.

just being transparent and honest =)

just thought of another, but it has a more studio/flat/clinical sound

these have room correction software. and u must use it or they sound like crap by all accounts, but once you do use it, they sound quite good. they wont do so well in larger rooms, but in your room they will rock. so if you plan on using them for like ever and they may wind up in a larger room, i would not suggest these. but if they are staying on a desktop, or in a small room, they will be quite good.

edit: they would be slightly more then the vanatoo’s as well, but i have seen them run a couple sales now in the year or so they been out, for much cheaper.

I believe Final Link Audio in Australia ships to NZ. We don’t sell directly - it’s all through retailers.

oh and i have a question for ya now that i think about it. the kanto syd, how does it compare with the yu4’s? i want to get an active pair of speakers for my aunt and mom to use to listen to their collective vinyl collection. they started collecting as kids together. the syd would be easier over all for them, but i am concerned it will not be quite loud enough. for reference i have a 50wpc class d amp hooked up to klipsch r-51m’s at my mom’s house, and she says at times she wishes they were louder(gunna get a new amp for them soon with more juice, they can handle more).

they are 94 or 95db efficiency for reference. I guess my main question is, u know what the sensitivity rating on them is? i can not seam to find sensitivity ratings for kanto anything. wondering if the 25% less juice makes much difference between the 2. also teal FTW syd n teal!

@Baxman293 sorry for hijaking your thread a little

SYD is essential a YU4 in one cabinet. Same performance just a reduce sound stage.

We don’t provide sensitivity or SPL ratings for our speakers. Regardless, I don’t think we’re hitting the efficiency of a horn-loaded tweeter so 99% sure SYD won’t be loud enough.

I think a new stereo amp with 200+ watts would be a better use of money. You can pick up a refurb / warehouse deals Crown amp for ~$200.

Hey all good, ive just found a way that i can get stuff in from US or UK, so if there any other options you’d recommend id appreciate that, thanks.

Edit: those vanatoo speakers would be nice but they dont ship to nz with warranty.

another option.

factory refurb/recertified with warranty. and thats a good deal for them though that may be out of your price range?
