I think you confuse detail with boosted treble. They aren’t the same, but boosted treble most of the time helps with clarity. Clarity is only part of the equation when it comes to detail.
Detail includes clarity, focus, separation, attack, and decay. This goes for all frequency ranges, not just the highs/treble.
Probably because you believe Argons and HD6XX are “V-shaped” (what?!). AFAIK they’re neutral AF.
People who buy Helios as Argon or even “HD6XX replacements” will bleed from the ears… or, at best, definitely won’t get what they expect based on your recommendations.
This is 10dB more than HD6XX/650s @ 10khz. Sibilance city.
You also believe Takstar HF 580 are “V-shaped”. I’ve heard they’re warm/muddy/bass-oriented. Probably the exact opposite of Helios actually.
I’ve only seen one from dms, and with the protean there is a bit of a bass hump, an upper mid range recession with a peak in the upper treble, with other pads on the argon that would most likely change to tilt more towards warmer. Also not sure about his measurement rig and accuracy
The hd600 is more diffuse field tuned, and the 650 essentially added a nice warm hump to the bass, and reduced the treble roll off somewhat, something I would personally call neutral warm, I personally wouldn’t say the 650 has a recession in the midrange
Helios vs R70X vs HD650…guess which is which (normalized at 150Hz instead of 1000). Wish I could have included a Beyer too, but there aren’t any available in the graph database.
Looking back at my headphone/headset progression is kind of depressing hahahaha. Embarrassed to even think all this time missing out on good quality sound due to sticking with headsets
Using raw graphs can be misleading…not to mention purely relying on graphs can be misleading as well. I’ve heard both the R70X and the HD650. There are some similarities, but overall they both are easy to differentiate based on their own unique sound signature (I used to own the R70X and still own the HD650).
The Helios has more of a recession in the mids from 400 Hz through to 2 KHz, before it screams back up and overtakes the other 2 headphones in the treble.
The thing both the R70X and HD650 do not have in common with the Helios is boosted treble. The Helios has an average of 10 - 15 db higher treble than either the R70X or the HD650.
Also, the Harman Target Response Curve has absolutely zero bass roll off, unlike all 3 mentioned above. The HTRC treble also never rises above the upper mid peak at 2-3 KHz, as that is the apex of the HTRC.
That was kinda my point. Graphs don’t tell the full story, as while these three graphs look fairly similar (with a few differences), the graph normalization can be manipulated and can’t tell you how the headphone presents. Red is 650, Blue is R70X, and green is Helios.
I had a hyperx cloud headset for gaming when Overwatch was released and I started gaming competitively again after years away (previous plantronics headset user). I then rabbit holed after wanting to try out something with a mod mic.
I’ve gone from m40x to t50rpIII to he4xx which I used for the past about two years.
Now that I’ve been locked inside for a while I’ve gone kind of nuts and picked up 6xx (didn’t like, returned), Ether CX, Aeon X and Aeon2 closed. I also have an order of Argons in the pipeline that I’m trying not to think about. I may be returning the Ether and getting LCD2c instead but have to see what drop decides about the return, they’re slow to respond currently.
