Order of purchase:

  1. Momentum Overear (1st gen) - pads too small, ended up returning them
  2. B&W P7s - Sounded too boring, returned them
  3. PSB M4u2 - Loved them but they ended up breaking
  4. MSR7s - real bright, gave these away
  5. OPPO PM3 - boring, threw em away
  6. Meze 99s - Boomy and bloated, broke them in frustration
  7. HE 4XXs - Liked em but the headband broke… and I finished the job…
  8. Sundaras - Very light, airy sound, these are a keeper
  9. Drop Panda - still waiting… on the fence of canceling my order…
  10. MMX300s - Liked them but ended up throwing them away
  11. DT990s 600 ohm- Another keeper and replaced the MMX300s for my goto music listening headphone
  12. KPH30i - Bloated sounding, broke them in frustration
  13. Onemore Triple Driver Overear - They’re new and I’m on the fence with these but we’ll see how they burn in…

Empyrean was incredible when I tried it. Didn’t want to put it down when I listened to it. Utopia was too boring for my tastes

If it was just based on looks I think I’d go for Auteur every day of the week.

Also if I wanted to use them predominantly with tubes I’d go with Auteur too.

The Empyrean was just enjoyable to listen to where I am immersed in the music, which doesn’t happen on most high end headphones I have listened to. It was a great balance between neutral and warm. Like with the Utopia, it was really detailed, great sound stage, great technicalities, but it didn’t make me want to just close my eyes and be like yes. It lacked the “fun” for me.

Honestly I’m leaning in that direction specifically because of tubes. From all the research I’ve done, the Auteur is basically a HD600 on steroids…and who doesn’t want that?
