Which ANC Headphone has the best sound AND is not a crappy headphone?

I am looking for an ANC headphone that has a super sound as well. I know the Sony WH-1000XM3 have an ok sound, but I am looking for something better (and not the Bose 700 or Bose QC 35 II).

I have looked at:

Beyerdymanics Langoon
Sennheiser PXC550
Sennheiser 4.50BTNC
B&O H9i
Bowers and Wilkins PX

What can you suggest?

from everything I’ve read, the Sony’s are the best. I have the Senn 4.40Bt, which are the non ANC version of the HD4.50 and they’re okay, but definitely not ‘better’ sound. it’s ‘adequate’.

Do you have to get an anc headphone? If you want the best quality with isolation, a custom molded iem is more expensive but less compromising.

The Sony’s are the best balance, but imo I think the qc35 2’s are pretty great as well

My take is also that the Sony’s ARE the best, but those and the Bose are EVERYWHERE and the sound is my issue.
The ANC is for flying; I need to keep the volume at a decent level (bad ears) so ANC can help with that.

I have considered if the IEM’s can do the trick, as I have some custome made IEM’s from 64Audio. Maybee they are just as useful as an ANC headphone.

On a plane I find that iems can block out a fair bit if fit correctly

Yeah, I hope to find some with great sound AND ANC…

I need to try them out then.

OR get noise cancelling and wear them over your iems for even more blockage. Was curious and did it and was surprised. But not the most comfortable

the Etymotic IEM’s can fit so deeply that they can knock out up to 39dB from what I’ve read.

Yeah, THEN you have isolation :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

The Sony’s are ok for flying. I have the first version and has served me well for flights and for vacuuming the house. Not the best sound quality, but very decent and good enough under the circumstances.

The triple flange tips do work lol, but comfort can be an issue

^^^ This x2 get it done properly :+1:

I have some molded Snugs tips for my Shure 535, but they are not as good as my total custom IEM’s.

Just a thought. You can have a bluetooth adapter for “just headphones”, like the ES100. Maybe it’s time to create noise-cancelling adapters for headphones, too.

(Yeah, I know, it could be hard, but, I mean, I’ve never seen ANC headphones with the microphones placed to replicate your ears, so… there’s ways to overcome this problem.)

I would keep an eye on the new B&W PX7 that is getting released soon. It’s an update to the PX, so they are trying to compete with Bose and Sony.
I’ve got PXC550 and they are ok. They are little small so they aren’t the most comfortable and the ANC isnt anything to write home about more than saying it works. They sound better than the Sonys, but it’s marginal.
Sennheiser also released a the Momentum 3 a few days ago. Haven’t heard them, but could be another option to consider.

The B&W PX7 looks REALLY nice and maybe they have eradicated the issues from the former PX.

That kinda sucks that the px7 has no ldac. It does look nicer then the px, as I wasn’t really impressed with the px

Typical B&W… they have good sound, but drops the ball in other areas.
