Who are your favorite female vocalists

I think Ida Maria has a great voice (not in the classical sense perhaps, but in rawness and energy). She had a somewhat international hit with “oh my god” on her first album, but went quiet for some time after that. She is still active though.

Sarah Jarosz also has a cover of When Doves Cry by Prince that’s amazing. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a YouTube video that wasn’t recorded on a cellphone so here is the Spotify link.

One of my most recent discoveries: Lianne La Havas
Kinda hard to decide whether she belongs primarily here or on the singer-songwriter thread, but I think I like her vocal qualities just a hair more than her compositions, so here we are.

Becca from the band Anavae.

This is good stuff. All of it. Thank you.

I wonder how late at night/early in the morning that last duo it was for that duo to find have that tunnel completely empty long enough to shoot that video.

Took them multiple times. :stuck_out_tongue:

Do you know them, or have jut heard the story?

I seem to remember a story about Led Zep not being satisfied with the reverb the were getting in the studio when they were recording When the Levee Breaks. So they set up Bohnam’s kit in the hall of a stone castle one of them owned or was renting or some such. The acoustics would probably be about the same.

Here’s some more!

I wish  She just said it in a comment under the youtube video, months (years?) ago (I’m subscribed to the channel).

I have always been a big fan of Antony and the Johnsons. She has produced only 3 albums, but each is a gem.

If I remember right, Rufus Wainwright has a little cameo in the beginning of this one:

This is a haunting exploration of life’s end.

One of my favorite female singers. Teena Marie is the only white woman to be signed by Motown records.
