Who's got Focal headphones?

which model and what do you like and not like about them?

I had the pleasure of trying 3 of 4 pairs yesterday…I tried so many headphones I’m not sure if it was 3 or 4…just know that the last pair were so disappointing compared to the Stellia’s and Clear’s that I unplugged them and put em back up on the demo rack. :stuck_out_tongue:

The clear pro and elegia, imo the best out of their current lineup

what do you like about them? don’t like?

did you try the Elex from Drop?

what’s the dif between the Clear and Pro’s, aside from price?

The clear pro is just the clear with a different color scheme and a coiled cable.

The Elex is the more fun option with more prominent mids (almost like a W shaped sound imo) and would be the more exciting choice compared to the more flat clear and elegia

Also the cables are hot garbage for the clear and elegia, do you need to get a different cable because they have too much memory and are stiff and microphonic

Just got a set of Elear on trade and I’m really enjoying them so far. Definately different than the HD650 I’m coming from, more dynamic and better detail retrieval. Dont take as well to tubes as the 650 but definately worth playing around with. Can be a bit bright and fatiguing in certain songs but it hasn’t bothered me durring any long listening sessions

I didn’t like the elear that much, as I think the elex is a better headphone overall. They don’t respond that well to tubes because if their low impedance imo

I’d like to try the elex, gotta find a loaner one to compare the two. Would also love to try pad rolling the elear as I think that’s one of the biggest tuning differences between the elex/elear. I think they are around 50ohm(?) so yeah that would be the cause of their lackluster tube change. Still sound better on tubes IMO but isnt something that needs to be tried due to it’s small difference

$400 for a different color and coiled cable? that’s insanity! :stuck_out_tongue:

I wouldn’t have gotten them if I paid extra for that lol

I have the Elex and Clear and I enjoy both a lot. I liked the Clears more, but at $700 the Elex made more sense to me when I first bought it. I just picked up the Clears this month as they seem to be on sale in a lot of places, and I don’t regret it. Neither are great out of the Dark Voice, but I almost always use that with my Sennheisers anyway so not a big deal. Both have some of the best imaging of any headphone I own

About agree with that assessment. Elex owner, but the Clear is superior in detail retrieval and accuracy. The Pro has the extra pads to, IIRC. The Elex pushes close to the frequency response of the Clear, but headphones are more than the frequency response, but distortion, CSD, PRAT, etc.

Then fit, build, cable quality (as you’ve touched on), etc.

Yeah, I also really like the clear for mastering work as it can be eq’d to be super flat yet still maintain great sound

I’m looking at this company for my second set of headphones. I got the Sendy Aiva’s. I love its narrow sound stage. Other words ive heard is “foward” and “intimate” lol. And i really like the Focals reputation for flat neutral balancing. The Elex and Clears and Elegia have been recommended to me. Which has the most “foward” sound stage?

Elex imo. It is the most forward of the bunch. The clear and elegia also have a smaller stage, but the way the elex is tuned it sounds more forward

can´t say much about Elex - but I prefer Elegia over the Clear for timbre and flexibilty

Have a pair of Elear’s. Strangely they are the ones I like to use if I am playing any PC games since I get quite low fatigue with them for long sessions. Not the best of the Focal range and Z was right they feel well like they are built like a french tank
