Indeed…You can’t change solid state, it is what it is, but you can change tubes/valves which seem to add a human emotion to the sound unlike an EQ…tubes are the Van Gogh of sound, all art and sound needs to be heard or seem first hand 
You gotta love Paul’s nearly ten minutes of explaining boiling down to the above quote.
