Updated with FA Studio and Ksearphone DM7 rankings
The Studio goes right into God Tier? Not that I want to say it does not belong there, just surprised.
Had the FH-1 when the Studio and Pear came out. Ordered both. In comparison the Studio reminded me of the NiceHCK EB2S Pro, very bass light. Liked the FH-1 better. In the end I kept the Pear with its warmer tonality and much better bass compared to the Studio even though it has the weirdest fit. Its a very “flat” flathead. Wish it would go a little deeper (distance between driver surface and start of the MMCX stem).
It may appear to have just launched there, but in reality, I’ve had a lot of discussions behind-the-scene before making a decision. Perhaps over time, it will drop down a tier, but that is the community-driven ranking for now.
Studio is not warm set at all, but the bass extension is good (for earbuds), and it is well-controlled. I find that there is enough bass to give life-like timbre and tonality to most instruments. I don’t listen to genres that require much more bass than what the Studio has to offer - sure, a tad more midbass might make the double bass or kick-drums boom more, but I’m happy with the compromise.
Btw, you might want to try a NiceHCK silicone ring underneath the foam on your Pears to improve the fit.
I use that same arrangement for most of my buds ![]()
Nice, HCK
sorry, bad pun.
Word of caution: on some shells (mx500 for example), the NiceHCK rings lead to tilting the overall frequency response downwards, i.e., increase in bass and decrease in treble.
I’ve got a pair on the way, looking forward to see if they live up to the community hype…

Hooray! They are neutral but great tonality and fantastic resolution. Hope you’ll enjoy them - do share your thoughts once you’ve had a listen ![]()
Is VE SMG really god tier? Or overated? I mean, head fi reviews for ve smg is not so perfect ratings. And SMG’s frequency response graph in squiglink seems to not good than tgxear serratus and rw-3000/EBX25ti.
Welcome to HFGF
graphing buds is notoriously difficult, so take them with a big pinch of salt.
All buds and IEM’s need a good fit ie it’s a make or break.
Add in all flathead folks feed back = the rank I guess?
Serratus gets a big
from me though.
Many people own or have tried the SMG, and the consensus is that it has some special sauce that warrants its ranking. It is a warm set, so depends on what you’re after. Serratus is subbass boosted and slightly bright, while EBX25Ti is bright.
Exciting! It is neutral but excellent timbre and tuning IMO. Hope you’re enjoying them?
Dude just spent 1 hour with this set and just wow £61 get the fuck out of here! can’t believe that!. Flathead audio what have you done lol, this sounds
…
I’ll give some more in depth thoughts tomorrow as I’m home/boat alone ![]()

Yeeee nice! They are very nice - I’m missing my set (out on tour right now)
For the price they’re crazy
value …I’ll take my time
but any criticism’s won’t take into account the price point as their supposedly a God’s Tear set ![]()
Yeah, it depends a lot on the tuning you’re looking for.
I don’t have a lot of experience with buds, but I found SMG kindof “meh”. It was too warm for my preferences, and it was the least warm of the VE buds I tried ![]()
Recién llegados a Veracruz, México.
Hey buddy out of interest have you got a fav out of the three sets and what types of music do you listen to?
