Yeah me too bro
I wish the 4.4 Pentaconn was being rolled out to more balanced systems as the default balanced connector, and Iām pretty sure we will see that in the near future. But until then⦠I like my big olā XLR connectors. That is all you see in my system. No issues with them here.
I can see me picking up one of these little MT-604 gems as a preamp someday. I like it!
OK guys iām getting an earth type hum with this amp, not audible when playing but when not very much yesā¦touch the amp and it goes away one anyone @MazeFrame got any idea how to sort this please?
Since touching it makes it go away, I would try grounding the amp to, well, ground.
A simple kit with a ground wall adapter and one clamp should be enough.
Or you bend open an old coathanger and stick some tinfoil in some slit or under some screwā¦
Cool thanks for the reply buddy just two more thingsā¦would this work itās UK over here

You need to somehow attach a ground to the device.
Since it has balanced input, check one thing: What happens when you touch the source device (DAC?) while nothing is playing?
If this makes the hum go away, it is a floating ground problem (= something a little ground wire can fix). Else it is something else and you should wait throwing money out for a ground strap.
When I am correct with my theory, the ground of your entire hifi chain is separated from earth (= no electrical connection between ground and earth).
Since transformers are subject to the laws of physics, they capacitively couple a little voltage from the power grid to the device side. When that voltage difference canāt even out, you now have voltage rising and falling in respect to earth at 50 (or 60) Hz.
Thanks buddy Iāll check out what youāve advisedā¦I havenāt got time today but Iām on it
Ground Loop⦠what happens when two separate devices (A and B) are connected to ground via different paths and then also connected to each other by another path, creating a loop.
That is what I said, yes.
Does not really matter what is forming a loop, just matters that lack of ground can also cause a ground loop.
Alright, then. Just checking.
I bought a youkomoo adapater off of amazon for male xlr to female 4.4mm to use my iems on the soloist. 25 bucks. There are other more spendy options. Sounds different (better?) than balanced out of a zen dac. No hiss, thats all I care about
Just orderedā¦4 x 6J1P-Ev Voskhodās to go withā¦as Iām enjoying the synergy with my Timeless letās see what NOS brings to the party
@MazeFrame thanks again buddy just got an earth cable and itās all quiet know gonna solder a spade connector on it to make it a bit more robust as itās clamped against the side case panel at the moā¦Iām guessing here in the UK the wall plug is earthed to the power brick but from there thereās no earth just a + and - 12v to the amp as Iāve never had a problem with my Little Dot MKII full 240v
thanks again
Indeed you are a-rollin, son! Do enjoy. You are giving me the itch to get more too. The first swap I have done was very successful. Of course that was from stock, so⦠Not that the stockers were bad, they were actually quite good, but the Gold Lions are so much better. Lots more to try!
what would you recommend for IEMs like Mest or Timeless ?
I canāt speak for the MEST but the MT-604 works a treat with the Timeless, I use it a bit like a mono block amp ie I have both left and right volume set to max and feed it via the LO from the DX312 and use that as my volume control itās set on high gain and use about 1/4 volume with no hiss
Sorry if my post was confusing but it was regarding the 602. I cant speak for the 604 but I have tried the schiit Magni 3 which has a gain switch and worked flawlessly with iems that we tried(fh3, tin t2, starfields). I believe the ifi zen dac and amp+can also have gain steps or matching.
