XLR cables - should I buy hi end or stay with basic ones?

Hi all,

Question about XLR cables.
I have Yamaha HS8 with Cambridge Audio DACmagic Plus.
Cable distance 7 meters.
I have very basic XLR cables that i bought being excited to begin lestening to my new then setup.
Now I think to upgrade.
But, from an engineering point of view, XLR are noise cancelling by design and in my setup the cables transfer non amplified signal. So, is it worth to upgrade at all? or simply to remain with basic XLR cables?

My friend, that I value his opinion, said that quality XLRs are needed for really long cables. Otherwise, it is an overkill.

Thank you.

If the cables you have now work properly and are decent quality I wouldn’t worry about it at all and must stick with what you have, you should be just fine

It works fine. But how can I know if I’ll plug better cables I won’t get better sound?

You can try nicer cables, perhaps you may hear a sonic difference, but generally it is not worth the cost in a system like this as even if there was an audible difference it would most likely be minute, I would much rather spend the money elsewhere in the system like upgrading the dac or the studio monitors before I would buy high end cabling as that will get you much more improvement for your money than cables will

ok, thank you for your advice M0N.

That DAC you have BTW responds well to a linear power supply.
