I love how Emotiva says “Just admit linear PSUs are not the endgame”

One of the main limitations with traditional amplifier designs has always been the power supply. Until recently, a power supply that could deliver enough current to run a modern high-powered amplifier required a bulky transformer and large filter capacitors. While these traditional power supplies delivered good performance, they were heavy, expensive, and inefficient. For years, precision components like preamps and processors used regulated power supplies, but regulated supplies powerful enough to be used in large amplifiers remained complex and prohibitively expensive.

Switchmode Supplies are not that bad, are they?
0.1V ripple at 90% load is quite the something. With their feedback, they even work for all grid voltages and frequencies (within reason).

How do you run this amp for HT with surround? A preamp that handles signal processing then channels get powered by something like this? Or maybe I’m missing something, doesn’t appear their multi-channel (> 2) amps handle surround sound signal processing

Exactly like you described.
Do all your processing and volume control (in an Emotiva MC-700 or Marantz AV7704), then feed it to a power amp like the XPA.
