Yamaha A-S301 DAC

Hello, I recently bought my first speaker setup. A Yamaha A-S301 and a pair of elac debut 3.0 DB63 speakers. I am not regretting anything! It sounds great! I’m am so happy. But of course I like to tinker around a bit. I have a Schiit Modius DAC and wanted to connect it to the AS301z. Will I hear a significant difference? Also I am not quite sure how to set it up because I already have a Wiim Pro connected using digital out. Any suggestions or options are greatly appreciated!

Hello,

First congrats on the new setup. There might be a perceivable improvement, but that will come down to your ears as we all perceive sound differently. If you want to give it a shot you can hook up your Wiim Pro to the Modius via Optical or Coax, and then run RCA out to the Yamaha line in or CD in. When I owned the the 801 (paired with Klipsch RP-600m speakers) I did notice an improvement using an external DAC, but as always YMMV.

Good Luck with your new setup, and Happy Listening!

Out of curiosity which amp do you currently have the Modius connected to?

Thanks, I am a Schiit Head so I always wonder which Schiit gear people are using.

The Modius DAC will improve sound quality, especially with high-res audio. Connect it to the A-S301’s analog input (like “AUX” or “CD”). Keep the Wiim Pro on the digital input. Test both and see which sounds better to you.

So I did connect the schiit dac to the as301. There is a clear difference lol. And I love it. Besides some jazz and what not. I really enjoy gojiras magma album through this DAC. The sympols sound “airy” and real! Thanks guys. Now im addicted. Damn it.

Most audio forums have that effect on us all :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:. It is in part the reason I ended up purchasing a Yggdrasil+ MIB DAC 3 months ago.

Glad you are enjoying the combo.
