I tried that adapter on the Deuce and several others, yet I preferred using the eq over the adapter each time, and honestly it wasn’t close. Did wonder if it was wired as supposed to be, but clearly could hear the bass change with other changes that seemed detrimental overall. It sits lonely in the box.
Here’s an update on them:
Dang, 5 decades later and I still remember what they tasted like. My first experience of an overdose since my late, beloved granddad would get me up to 3 large tins a week (no idea how my pancreas could survive my daily intake of chocolate etc… back then).
Yeah, @GregTheEgg said it best. I tried to highlight how I felt about the other sets the best I could in my post.
Dude. That red graph looks lovely. I already EQ the upper mids down a touch on the Deuce, they can get a bit too spicy IMO.
Yeah the graph does look good although that mid-bass dip is still cursed…
(and hopefully that giant 14k peak is not accurate.)
I like when the low shelf is tucked right at 200 but I get why it’s not universally loved.
Even with the price differential, they’re probably in a similar tier of performance, right?
Cant tell techs from graph. But at least the Deuce does have a slight tonal advantage with it having less mid-bass (cleaner) and a bit more upper-mids so should have more “clarity”.
For me, it would have to come down to bass quality. The Deuce has insanely deep and rumbly sub bass but lacks tactility and texture in the mid bass. If the Zero 2 can have similar sub bass performance and improve on mid bass… they might have a winner here.
There are 2 concerning things with the Zero 2, it has a very thick nozzle and it seems it has a very low impedance and reacts a lot even to smaller impedance changes so source OI and even cables might have a noticeable effect on it. So keep that in mind when you see the graphs from different people.
Trueeee. That’s a valid point. Also, have you seen the Deuce nozzle? lol it’s comically big. Close to 7mm.
A lot of modern chifi is going the easy route with HUGE nozzles…
heh, jokes on you, the Deuce is Sing-Fi…
Ps. you’re the one that taught me that a late treble boost helps with bass texturing for whatever reason, must help with the transient part of the notes… so the Zero 2 has some promise. @Rikudou_Goku
It can do that, but not always as is obvious with the EX800st that graphs with like zero upper-treble. in stock like that it is likely nr 2 (or 3 if u add the EX1000 above it) in bass texture coming in after the Dunu Zen (which ironically also has like zero upper-treble).
I agree. If the Zero 2 can pull off that kind of sub-bass magic and refine the mid-bass, then sure, it might be something… but until then, the Deuce still reigns supreme.
ahahahhaha i feel you man once you got going it was hard to stop and being the messy lil kid i was my room would be littered with these colorful wrappers like someone just popped a dozen part poppers
Honestly thats the same reaction I would have. Honestly IMO everything now a days seems have had all the fun sucked out of it by the dementors
That makes sense. The Deuce already delivers some pretty impressive sub-bass…deep, and its got good gravitas to it. They way its staged also help making that low end feel a lil 'atmospheric" rather than just bloated or overwhelming…I think having a slightly less pronounced mid bass helps in achieving that?? Overall the bass presentation hits hard but still feels less fatigue-y, which for someone like me who usually has long listening sessions especially during mid to long haul air travel which is pretty fatigue inducing in general.
If the Zero 2 can manage to maintain that kind of sub bass feeling while refining the mid-bass and detail, it could genuinely has the potential to be topping some lists.
